SR-52 Bridge into OC

Postby jondrush » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:17 pm

Anyone care if I unsplit the new bridge into Ocean City? I don't see any need for it to be split, but maybe I'm missing something.

I had always presumed a completely divided road like a freeway was better to keep divided for the following reasons:

  • Incident and police reports will reflect the direction of travel (assuming the appropriate NSEW designation is added to the road name). Otherwise you see police and incident reports for both sides of the road regardless of their true location.
  • TTS translation will be more accurate when final ramps linked to freeways are not named because it uses the name of the road and that will include the appropriate NSEW notation. While that is not the recommended naming convention, most ramps are unnamed until someone comes through and names them.
  • Any exits or entrances to the roadway does not need to be turn restricted since on a divided road all turns are allowed and the roadway direction controls the turns for easier map management.

There are probably others I did not immediately consider.

I don't normally put directions in anything but Interstate names.

This has normal road intersections on both ends. No ramps involved.

SR-52 Bridge into OC

It's not a freeway. It's a state route minor highway. There's no requirement that anything be split that's not Freeway.

I was probably one of the last editors to touch it. Someone else had split it to represent the post-reconstruction layout with one side having both directions of traffic (which it did for quite a while).

When I was in Ocean City a few months ago I updated it to be two one-way segments because the bridge had just recently fully opened.

I didn't see a big problem with it being split at the time so I left it.

But in the end I don't care either way. I am just glad they rebuilt the bridge in real life!

Just had to rebuild the intersection on the mainland side of the bridge. Someone moved the roads around to match the outdated aerials. Bad edits are live for now, but I think I've fixed everything. If someone can double check me, that would be great!

Someone has recombined both directions of Rt 52 into a single segment and now the turn arrows are incorrect at the Pleasure Ave intersection in Ocean City. The final few feet of Pleasure Ave is one way toward Rt 52 at that point and a turn off of inbound Rt 52 onto Pleasure Ave is not allowed. In addition there is no possibility of a left turn off of outbound Rt 52 onto Pleasure Ave or a left turn from Pleasure Ave onto outbound Rt 52 due to the dividing barrier. At least one of the segments is locked and I am unable to correct the turn arrows.
