Waze makes phone hot ...

Ok,Strange things going on.
I've been using Waze awhile now. Currently at Waze Knight status,just to give you an idea,cause it takes awhile to get to that point.
Anyway,I have the Motorola Atrix 2,and here lately (about 2 or 3 weeks) ,when using Waze, I have 2 problems. 1) Sometimes after putting a place to navigate to,the route (or road) doesn't highlite, yet the voice navigation is telling me where to go. 2) Also, while using Waze,my phone gets hot,to the point I just exit Waze,then phone cools off. I also use Google Navigator,of which I don't have these problems. I like Waze,and prefer to use it,but the heat problem is worrying me,and don't want to use Waze if it continues. Again, this only happens when using Waze.
Should I try uninstall,then reinstall ? Has anyone else encountered this?

It's rather hot for me too although I use less than 30mins most of the time. The power consumption is also rather high IMO.

It is normal for an app which constantly uses wifi/data/gps and keeps the screen on full brightness, and charging at the same time, to cause any mobile device to get very warm. Also, in the northern hemisphere, it's summer, so our cars are, in general hotter than they will be in 4 months. Modern devices have thermal protection built in, so don't worry. There are many threads about this already.

I had this problem on my Galaxy Nexus, plus even when plugged into a rapid charger in my car, the battery level was slowly going down when running Waze. In the case of the Galaxy Nexus it has an OLED screen ( don't know what kind of screen the Atrix has) which draws more power the brighter and whiter the screen is. I have solved both the heating and charging problems by editing the schema file to make the background color of the map black, instead of bright gray.

I use the "editors" screen scheme so the file I edited is: .../waze/skins/default/day/8/schema.

I changed the lines:
Map.Background: #000000
Cites.Color: #000000ff

Now the battery actually gains some charge while running Waze, and the phone is much cooler. And incidentally, I find the map easier to read too.

I use a Galaxy S2 and have found a similar problem with excessive heating. Have found it to heat to a point that the phone locks up (happened once - now I am constantly checking the temp of the phone). Similar issue with not being able to charge properly while Waze is running.
Otherwise I love this app but am concerned about the heat.

Google is not doing anywhere near the amount of background processing and communication with servers constantly that Waze does. Which is why it is better. Mount it in front of the A/C vent.

Also take off any case. I found that having a jelly case on makes it a lot worse. May seem obvious...

I bought the "Scosche Vent Mount" at my local Walmart. It does the job. It does keep the phone cool especially when charging and using Waze at the same time. Installation is easy, but removing can be a little challenging at times. I used this on my girlfriend's Corolla, my brother's Altima, and my own Camry so far. I learned to use the 2nd line from the top of the vent to make it easier to remove.

Much easier to go into the main settings screen, then under the "Map" section select "Mode" and select "Night". Black background, bright roads, no hacking.

Also, ditto on the AC dash vent mount. The only problem, is it can get a bit chilly in the car in the winter...
