It is brilliant when it does that. I've had it work on larger trips too ie taupo to Auckland, if you approach Hamilton during its rush hour waze will divert you through Gordonton.

Hi all
Two things happened to me today that have never happened before
First I was driving around Whangarei about lunch time and I saw two other wazers. That never happens. In the last 9 months I have seen about 5 wazers in Whangarei in total but never at the same time.
Second I was driving through Whangarei about 5:00 (Whangarei rush hour) and I could see that the road I usually use was busy, waze diverted me and I must say it was fast, I would have never thought of the route it took in a million years
Very happy

I was traveling from the south into Auckland today and for at first I was given a route to get off the motorway at Drury then down Gt South Road and back on the motorway further north. I thought at first it must be a map error on the motorway and to my surprise a minute later the route was updated due to lighter traffic conditions - the Auckland rush hour was over and the motorway was flowing again! I've never be given a route like that which goes off the motorway. Definitely more and more Wazers on the road and the more we get the better the realtime routing!
