It has already been stated, but map editing deserves a boost. I am still grumbling over miles and miles of roads in my neighborhood that are not labeled, corrected, connected to each other etc. Driving is
using the program, recording new roads and editing them
making the app useful for the average person (they are probably not computer geeks).
I like spending an hour now and then editing the map and taking detours with the car or in public transport to record new roads. Every road I touch will be reviewed/edited/corrected by myself, insofar I am able to. That way, we will build this app to something useful in Europe. Currently, I cannot even navigate from my street to my work, although the route is completely there and driven more than 20 times. We got to get those things working if you want to attract mainstream.
I am not looking for a boost in points for map editing independently. Rather, I would reward editing/labeling your own routes better. If doing all things together, the point rate gets higher than usual.
That gives an incentive to 'clean your own sh**', putting it mildly.
Second remark: taking points away is a major negative experience. You don't want to scare your users away with stiff measures. I would only take away points when people don't use the app for 3 months or so. People do go on vacation now and then
