Bing Search Results

Postby gettingthere » Fri Jun 10, 2011 6:21 pm

Hi,

I noticed that today the Waze Application is returning search results from Bing vs. Google.

Could we get additional information on the search results screen for the Bing results? Currently It shows the name of the POI, but doesn't have additional information such as the distance away, street, city, etc. It's difficult to make a decision on which result to choose without having to click on the result and view on the map.

The POI name is being shown but the second line has three dots (...) where this additional information could be shown (as it was with Google search).

I understand that there is limited screen real estate to show additional info, but at least a consistent distance away on each search result would be of value.

Also, it would be of extreme value to be able to return to the search results screen after clicking 'View on Map'. There are cases where this is not the search result that you want and you would rather return the the search results list vs. having to re-search.

This would be a time saver as well as less dangerous to have to re-search over and over again when you are in your vehicle trying to navigate.

I get the POI name and distance away, which is better than the Google responses we used to get, but some general info for the location would be good. Of course, the submenu will show location on map, but that's not ideal.

I am getting the distance away on some of the results, not all. Maybe the transition from Google to Bing search is not done?

In any case, I am not getting any better results with POI's coming up. I search for POI's and they often won't come up on the first attempt, have to submit multiple times, add part of the location, street name etc. So it seems the way that Waze is massaging the search queries and passing them off to either Bing or Google is the issue.

Another complaint - why does Waze show search results that are > 200 or so miles away? Both for native Waze search and Bing search. If Waze can only effectively route for a couple of hundred miles, why show search results thousands of miles away?

Yet another complaint. Why not show the Bing search results sorted in order of distance from your current location, closest first? In most cases I want to go to the location closest to where I am now. If I search for 'Pick up Stix' I get 8 results with these distances:

6.0 mi. away
3.1 mi. away
3.6 mi. away
8.8 mi. away
3.9 mi. away
13.3 mi away
8.4 mi away
3.0 mi away
10.2 mi away
11.2 mi away

I have to scroll down to the 8th selection to get the closest one. And for sanity I want to know where the location is so I have to click find on map first to confirm since there are no other details on the Search results page.

I hope that this get this straightened out.

Waze routes up to 1000mi in the US.

Definitely should.

Don't think so. That's an iPhone SS from Bassman, and I am too, so we get different msgs. I don't remember what unwallflower uses.

So, if it's not "US" or North America, what is it... ?
