Traffic feeds by 3rd party

Postby ariesboy475 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:09 pm

Are there any 3rd party traffic feeds out there that are free? If so any plans on integrating this with the application. i.e. traffic.com.

If you look at the Where application, the traffic section pulls info from traffic.com. It list incidents and events. Can the data sent from these feeds translate to points on the waze map?

I think I like the way this system works a little better than Where's. I checked the traffic on I-69 this morning before my commute on Where (because nothing was appearing in waze) and it didn't show anything. Two minutes BEFORE I got to the exit, there was not only a "Moderate Traffic" alert for the highway I was about to get on, but also someone took a picture of an accident that was causing the backup and subsequent slowdown on a stretch of 70 MPH road to 23 MPH. Armed with that knowledge, I took a back road and made it in with time to spare. Where didn't update for another 10 minutes after I got to work. Once more people start using this app, its going to get a whole lot better.

I'm just saying add this to enhance what users will already add to the system. There may be areas/time where previous wazer haven't document yet. Or if you're the first wazer to that location, you dont want to get stuck on it. :) you want additional reports so that you can nav around it as well :)

It def wouldnt be bad to implement traffic data. But I will also agree that 9 out of 10 times, the data is sent later than anything. My wife had a Garmin traffic data plan, and it never ever helped her. She hated it. But, if its easy to implement, would not hurt.

We are definitely looking for potential cooperation with 3rd parties to enhance our information, though this will take some time, as we need reach the right commerical agreements.
