That's what I would have expected, but I thought I would give it a go today. It worked!
A bit of bold or italics can help to make your "following comment" stand out in the email they get. I haven't tried <a href> yet though...

OK, I tried:
- Code: Select all
<i>test message
<br/>
<br/>
Mail me at <a href="mailto:w@ze@ziggo.nl">w@ze@ziggo.nl</a><br/><br/>
Don't forget to check <a href="http://www.waze.com">the Waze website</a>.<br/>
<br/>
Greetings!<br/>
Gerben</i>
(real responses will have a valid mail address ofcourse)
I got:

- waze mail.jpg (29.12 KiB) Viewed 523 times
Both links are working in my ISP's webmail. The mail address opens a new outgoing message and the website link goes to my browser, so it seems that at least basic html is working.

Wow, I am floored. When did they add this? Well, anyway, I'm off to HTML the crap out of my update request responses now. Thanks for finding this!
EDIT: This sure makes it a mess for another editor to try and read in the Cartouche GUI though.

Of course the recipient's email system must support HTML and they must have their client, webmail client, etc. set to display it.
Most email systems do support HTML - this is a good idea.

<b> probably wouldn't hurt just to highlight the core of the email!

I've decided that while I love love love to format things with embedded links, it makes a huge mess the way I like it (I've got divs and spans and linebreaks and styles...).
So, I am probably just going to go with the easiest way to make the linebreaks work without having to use multiple tags. And that is by using <pre></pre> tags, which tells the renderer to follow the line break formatting of text in between the tags.
