[Page Update] House Numbers

Post by citeman
I had always thought that only numbers were allowed in the WME House Number field. It recently came to me attention that letters (A-Z), dashes(-), and slashes (/) could now be used. I am currently doing some further testing and will propose some Wiki updates, when done with the testing. However, in the meantime, I am perplexed by one statement from the current Wiki:
Unsupported number format : House Number contains too many numbers, or has letters or other characters which do not align with the allowed format for the country.
Anybody know what the "allowed format" is or was for the US, or does anybody know if the allowed format does really change for other countries? Thanks!

So I did some testing and it appears the following House Number formats are now allowed on the NA server, it is unknown if the formats are different for other areas of the world.

#####ABCDEFGHIJ (maximum of 5 numeric and 10 alphabetic)
#####-##### (maximum of 5 numeric on each side of a dash; no alphabetic)
#####/#####A (maximum of 5 numeric on each side of a slash; however, one alphabetic allowed after a slash)

Other Noted Restrictions
-House Numbers must begin with a numeric.
-Only one special character can be used (- or /).
-No spaces or other special characters appeared to work.
-Alphabetic upper and lower case can be used interchangeably.
-Alphabetic cannot have a number or special character after it.

I am waiting for a tile update, so I can begin test searching for these types of addresses (house numbers).

I have done some first testing and discovered the following. It appears that the letters are ignored :o , but I am testing further. HN's that I did not add, appeared in the search results, so that could imply some type of range or guesstimate by Waze. My initial HN's were not the best for testing all the different combinations, so I have modified and will test again soon.

Testing complete. All the special and alphabetic characters were ignored in the Waze app search feature. Therefore, it would be my recommendation that none of these characters should be used until such time that they show up in search results. I will be preparing some Wiki update language.

House numbers can contain numbers and letters.
I'm proposing to change the above bullet point, listed under Things to remember (caveats/warnings) as follows:

House numbers can contain numbers, letters, dashes - and slashes /. However, the use of letters, slashes, and dashes appears to cause the house number data to become unsearchable; therefore, it is recommended that these other characters NOT be used at this time (Feb 2015).
