New Page - Junction Style Guide

Postby WeeeZer14 » Wed Aug 01, 2012 8:35 pm

My first attempt at (what I hope is) a helpful newbie guide - http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Junction_Style_Guide

I want to expand it, but I am wiki-ed out for the day ;)

Besides general comments, please let me know of situations that should be covered. This is what I am already thinking:

- split roads
- roads that cross at grade but no turns are allowed between them

Need to put in a diagram of the crossing roads at freeway onramps and offramps that we use to prevent reentry to the freeway.

This guide could also use roundabouts, because they're a kind of junction.

Two cases:
'The one you usually see in a base map, which isn't proper' (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=8&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT), and the proper 'after' case, which shows the symbol for a roundabout (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=8&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT), and...

What you get in a roundabout when you hold down SHIFT, which gives you a non-circular roundabout (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=8&lat ... TTTTTTTTFT).

I believe small tweaks are acceptable in either circular or non-circular roundabouts for direction purposes, as long as it isn't simply 'a street that looks round', right?

I've also found one rarely mentioned feature in WME to be really freaking useful when it comes to junctions and turn restrictions, and that's the SHIFT-A feature, that changes the view between 'What any one segment allows, positively and negatively', and 'What all segments in view do not allow'. I've been able to clean up areas that haven't been polished a lot faster with that view.

I just added the basic versions of these situations. Need to expand it to show when the surface street is a split roadway.

I added a link to the existing page on Roundabouts. Most of what we need seems to already be there, but I admit I did not read through the whole thing at this time.

Very nice, but I do have one comment: You don't need to add a geometry node to a ramp exit in order to make the turn permissions visible. Simply hit the 's' key in the WME and hidden permission indicators slide out from underneath the ones hiding them.

Awesome work! Great, easy to follow diagrams.

Once you get back into it, some guidance on folded diamond interchanges and SPUIs (emphasizing the SP) would also be helpful.

Thanks for taking the time.

Are there that many of these intersections out there? I don't think I've never been through one.
