Junction Style Guide - dead ends/Cul-de-sacs/loops

Post by
Since we have so many topics in the Junction Style Guide, I am going to try to split off future conversations so they are easier to follow.

I just updated the No Outlet Road (dead end/cul-de-sac/loop) section.

Dead ends and cul-de-sacs now give reasoning for the placement of the final junction node.

Loops include the instructions on how to break an existing loop if the editor won't let you.

Yes many of these examples will need to be tweaked once the beta WME goes live since junction and geometry nodes look different. :(

Take a look and make sure it makes sense and that I have the loop-breaking instructions correct.

I've never seen this. We know there are issue if there is no junction, but not that you can't route at all. What does it do? Just say it can't find the destination? Or does it end navigation early?

FYI, the recommended disabling of u-turns at dead-ends has been discussed a lot in the forums and the guidance was previously added to the wiki: https://www.waze.com/wiki/Map_Editing_Q ... nd-streets

Perhaps it needs to be added in more than one place, or we need to stop duplicating information on multiple pages.

Mayhap only on an island? ;)

Waze will place a marked at the added stop, but does not route to it. It gives an ETA of 1 min no matter where the added stop is.
This definitely doesn't happen over in the US mainland.

I just did this quick test route. In the editor, you can see the route ends on a dead-end road with a restricted/locked u-turn.

Here is the screenshot from the app, showing proper info for the destination:

Hrm. Ok, I'll have to try that now. :)

Yes, we've seen this too.

I have recently, personally experienced this and we also have a UR in our area talking about the same problem. Is there a solution? I can't find anything through searching...

Thanks

What is "this" you are referring to?

The "this" is a routing failure when adding a stop to a route where the stop is on a cul-de-sac. The server returns a "cannot find route" error, but navigating to the stop directly works, then a second navigation to the final destination.

Ok so this goes into the same bucket as the water layer resolution. At least I can pass this onto other editors and the user that posted the issue.

Thanks.
