Waze powers the map of White Night in Tel Aviv

White night 2010 in Tel Aviv - powered by waze

White night 2010 in Tel Aviv - powered by waze

In 2003, UNESCO selected Tel Aviv as one of the World Heritage cites for its unique Bauhaus architecture style (also called “the white city of Tel Aviv”). Since then, every year Tel Aviv celebrates this occasion by having a “white night”: a whole night, starting from early evening to early morning hours the next day, full of various activities – parties, guided tours, special music and dance events, and so on. This morning I was looking for the list of the activities in “the City Mouse”, one of the major city guides in Tel Aviv (http://www.mouse.co.il/CM.shows_item_show,761,208,14395,.aspx), and look who’s powering the map of all the events of White Night 2010 on their cite!

By: Olga

waze on Israel 62nd Independence DayAs a part of celebrations of Israel 62nd Independence Day, waze has added some road goodies for Israeli drivers. Check out these cute banners, hammers and sprays. (For Independence Day many buildings and cars are decorated with banners with Israeli flag on it, and children play on the streets with plastic hammers and foam sprays.)

Happy Independence Day to everyone in Israel, and enjoy driving and playing with waze!

Wazing area managers working as a team

Wazing area managers working as a team

[Interruption] – App Store – Top Free Navigation if you use Iphone.  Waze has been on/off the first page all day.  If Waze gets to 20, so it shows on the Itunes page on the PC/Mac and moves up the Iphone 1st page, we’ll see a lot more pink ‘baby wazers’ this week. Hint. You readers might want to go to the app store and add your reviews/ratings now to help keep Waze on top. [/Interruption]

We Minneapolis / St Paul area managers wanted to show you how we are using the Waze Wiki to better collaborate.

But first, as the newest area manager, I want you to know about the strong team we have here in the recently un-frozen North.  OscarC (aka Mr No-Sleep) just streaked to number 5 of the top wazers list.  Look out Shorty!  OscarC just owns St Paul and it’s suburbs.  Lemon is our pioneer. He was fixing roads long before the rest of us even knew Waze existed.  And not to forget Honda_Insight, Chroma and, especially for me, sota767, who showed me how to become an area manager, in the first place.  The team decided we wanted to a) divide the work better and b) avoid stepping on each others toes, if you get my drift.

So, we set up a Waze Wiki page.  We called it the Area Manager To Do list.

TC Area Mgr To Do List
If you have never visited the Waze wiki.  It is option 9
Welcome to the Waze Wiki

We have prioritized the road work, starting with the most traveled roads (US Freeway, US highway, Mn Highway, the crossing roads). We have an initial definition of what it means for a road to be ‘done’.

Road Complete Spec

See the top of the Area Manager To Do lists page.
Did I say lists?  Well, just scroll down.

Yes, we thought we’d give other US cities a starting point. If you are interested, you may find a copy of our page with some minor tweaking under a link for your city.  If you other area managers decide to use it, you’ll just need to add the names of your roads and get going.  Plus, I apologize in advance for other cities and countries (yikes!), but you should feel free to edit the to do list wiki page and add your country / City (probably best to start a country specific to do list page for non-US cities).

If you have a bad case of wiki-phobia, you are not alone. So did some Twin Cities area managers but it is not really all that scary.  If you can edit a text file with Notepad on a PC, then you can edit a wiki page.  Here’s a cute short video, from www.commoncraft.com, that can help you understand wiki’s.

It is found on the Area Manager’s FAQ wiki page...

Hey! Wait a minute.. yes, we even started a FAQ wiki for area managers.
Area Manager FAQ
It has some area manager stuff that we have learned. Non-Area managers, who want to edit within a mile of their travels, may find it useful as well. And, please feel free to record your ideas / best practices there.

Oh yeah, and if you want more info on editing a wiki page, you can find it there … uh here.

Thanks for listening and happy Wazing!

Cops Using WAZE!!!

By: ftboomer

So I’m driving home to Tampa from a trip to Miami and like always I see other Wazers icons along the road. Only this time this one in particular Wazer is on the road but not moving. I tap his icon and it shows a speed of 0mph.

As I’m approaching the spot where the wazer icon is, I see a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle sitting on the side of the road. As I slide past him, I pull up the Report tab and drop a Police pin right on top of his ass. Perfect hit of the police icon laying right on top of his Waze icon.

All I can figure is that a few smart and crafty cops with Waze installed have started making their jobs a little easier by watching for approaching Wazers icons and tapping them to check their speeds.

So here’s a little warning for travelers who see fellow Wazers icons at a standstill. BEWARE, they may be cops.

You’ve been warned!!
