In 2016, San Francisco kicked off its Waze partnership in a big way: planning and managing Super Bowl 50-related traffic. With more than a million tourists visiting during Super Bowl 50, San Francisco worked with Waze to communicate important road closures and manage congestion during this major traffic event (MTE).
- Waze alerted more than 600,000 users to the location and timing of road closures, helping drivers better plan their travels and redirecting traffic away from congestion hotspots.
- By leveraging Waze’s direct communication channel with drivers, San Francisco was able to positively impact traffic flow through the city, an important part of the overall success of the Super Bowl.
