The city of Ramat Gan and Waze cooperated in the “2017 Earthquake” exercise as part of a national effort to prepare citizens for an evacuation in the event of an earthquake emergency.
As part of the exercise, participants received 21 points designated for evacuation during an earthquake on the map. These checks appeared as pins on the map, leveraging Waze’s ads platform, and were chosen by the partner according to their relevancy. Waze received data about all other points as well, enabling us to respond quickly to future real emergencies.
Any user who opened the application was able to click on the “point of collection” and get the nearest point, so that in the event of a real emergency, the residents would know the nearest evacuation point. Residents would also receive push notifications with evacuation details.
