yeah, I’m not sure how Waze rates their penalties. Hopefully this helps. I also saw today a Waze notification saying that most people avoided a route instruction - which was through a small pedestrian walkway! And the last edit for that segment was a while ago - so I just deleted it.
I’ll call this 168, but this is really a general question:
How should we handle roads whose name is “W”, “E”, “N”, and “S” as the letter and NOT the direction? For instance in Brooklyn, you have “Avenue S” - NOT “Avenue South”. Is there a way in the system to rig this to have the voice not say “Avenue South”? I was just driving through Brooklyn on Sunday and it is a little bit of an embarrassment to promote Waze when it makes such a laughable mistake.
Let’s try to put it in " ", Like Avenue “W” and test it. I’ve searched the forum but could not find much. I asked one other Wazer for help, he suggested the same.
Let’s put the one in Brooklyn: Avenue S as Avenue “S” and check it after the update. Is there any particular one you travel on that you prefer to use?
What I’ve done in the past is create a driveway road segment for my house with voice commands to test out so it doesn’t bother anybody else. I’ll do that and let you know in a few days.
You are right, I took out the colons to now say
Exits 70A-B
Exits 70A - B
My test segment was purely to see if adding the space between the A and B actually makes the voice talk better. I’ve seen it done both ways, but I can’t recall which way is actually better for speech. Right now A-B is spoken as “AyeBee”, instead of “Aye Bee”. I’m hoping the spaces help. Once the test is done, I’ll speak to some of the editors in the wiki and see if they are willing to go along with the change. We’ll see. That’s why it is a test segment
While you are at it please see if there is a difference with “Exit 70N-S: …”, “Exit 70N - S: …”, “Exit 70 N-S: …” and “Exit 70 N - S: …” to see about North/South etc.
This may not produce desired results due to it not being at the beginning of the string… Since we’re getting daily updates to the map, it may be worth it to test a new name each day… But check it anyway…
OK… I can help you with some of those. I will create a test segment in my driveway as well. Let me know which one you’ll use and I’ll tackle the rest. How is that sounds?
I’ll leave what I had mentioned above and you can start off with the rest that I couldn’t do.
BTW, is there any reason why segments around a toll bridge (like the ones linked below) should be flagged as a toll instead of just doing the ones under the actual toll booth?
