Holy wrong way batman…the northbound side of 125 in this area is marked as one way southbound! Don’t know if that’s causing this specific problem but it sure isn’t doing any good.

It will take a Rank 5 to undo it. It was last modified on March 17 by staff.

I totally missed that too… Been staring at UR’s for the past 6 hours. Should probably take a break I guess. Missing huge things like that. Either way, when someone with the right juice sees this; please assist!

A Rank 5+ will probably come across it here sooner or later, but for what it’s worth the “official” approach is to put the request here…

https://www.waze.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=622

…or to go looking in the chat. On average those would get the problem solved faster, though a Rank 5+ could see this particular thread before I’ve finished typing and it might already be fixed

I refuse to use the unlock/update forum. I have 4 items in there still never looked at from the forums. I’ll take my chances here and in the chat. I found this late at night. So it’ll be fixed today.

Not to mention at the time I didn’t know what was wrong. WME wasn’t showing the RevCons at all. This computer sucks!!!

I can see why you’d be sour on that approach. Yuck.

Usually after filing a request in the unlock/update forum, I check who locked it in the first place and PM them a link to the request. OK, there is one high-ranking editor who locked a bunch of stuff but who seems to ignore those PMs, so I don’t bother that one any more. But the others have been really fantastic. I think they are just too busy to wander over to the unlock/update forum on their own as often as would be ideal.

Also, this is something the local AM and RC probably want to know about because it was apparently fouled up by Waze staff…in fact in Santa Cruz the same staff editor undid some one-way things we had set up here and immediately the URs started rolling in. Fouled me up personally in fact, I was shouting at Samantha…

I think they have some “magic” scripts over at Waze HQ, above and beyond the MP scripts, that they run every so often to keep life interesting.

I am the Am.

And me and HD took care of it in chat. I will usually PM that last editor, but in this case it was staff. So didn’t wanna wait forever to never get a response.

Both wondered about the staff thing, cause the isn’t the first time I’ve seen it either.

But the original problem is fixed.

Is there a reason why this segment should be two-way?
https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=32.7999&lon=-117.00499&env=usa&layers=997&segments=6987570

It shouldnt be. I watched HD change it to the right direction yesterday. I checked it myself. It was reversed then he corrected it. No idea how it got to be a two way. Can’t imagine he would change it after. If someone coukd correct that I would appreciate it. If not I’ll have HD do it tonight. Thanks

I took care of it. Just wanted to verify that there wasn’t some interesting experiment you were performing or something. Reasons for curious edits are not always obvious to those not party to a discussion or process.

As to how it got that way, WME has been known to save an edit and then change/revert it strangely before. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. I believe that you and HD did and saw what you did.

I’ll need to check later, when I’m at a real browser, whether any rev-cons were generated by the switch to one-way…

Why have many of the roads in this area been changed to Major Highway road type?

There are now many update requests in the vicinity that are surely being caused by these road type changes.

Hello Gettingthere,
I have began to change SD to FC maps. I have spent the last 2 days at it and am continuing to do so. Unless instructed to stop. there has only been one tile update, so UR’s shouldn’t be popping up yet form that. Not that I am sure why that would cause a UR anyway. The GPS records already would route most people down these main roads. As well as from the info I have read. FC’s shouldn’t have much affect on routing under 50 miles. I of course can’t guarantee that. If you believe I should reverse them I will, I screen shot everything before I started. But I figure being as slowly all states are moving toward this, and the US forum says that this should be the standard now that I would get a jump on it.

When I mentioned an issue about dirt roads to Jemay the other day involving FC’s he didn’t question me changing them unless he didn’t catch it. But I labeled the message including FC’s. I have also PM’d several level 5’s and Jemay about certain sections of roads I cannot update due to locks. But so far haven’t heard back. I will gladly include you in that message if you wish. It links to a Google doc that I have with a list of roads that need to be updated.

Don’t mean to step on your toes.

Please stop changing the road types until there is some more discussion. If you can only do part of the job due to locks you are likely going to be introducing problems into the routing.

This has nothing to do with stepping on toes. If your incomplete changes are affecting the routing for Wazers it’s a problem.

Can you please provide the link of what you are using as a reference to change the functional classification of the roads in the San Diego area?

I will of course cease.

Here is the link to Ca FC maps. It is also located in my sig.

Here are my suggestions if you want to do a mass change of road types to meet the California Road System MC:

  • Before changing a particular road type - check the entire section for locks first. If there are locks those need to be removed or downgraded so that you can edit them.
  • Start with upgrading the lower road types - streets to primaries.
  • Once those are done upgrade the relevant primaries that need to change to minor.
  • Then upgrade what needs to be changed from primaries and minor to major.

Work only one area of the map at a time. Thoughts?

There also needs to be some discussion on setting lock levels on roads that are upgraded. Suggestions?

Gettingthere,

Very well, this is the system I will use from now on. I have been moving map by map, so that is already in play. But I will make sure to check all roads for locks as before I make changes from now on.

One question, per say I am editing a road that is good on locks on the map I am working on, but further down the road (Balboa for example) and then I find a lock. Do you want me to undo the entire road and wait? Or stop at a logical spot and wait for an unlock?

As far as what to lock roads at, I will leave that to you senior gentlemen. I was just locking roads I thought significant enough. And kind of going off the system Michigan was using, as that is where I learned FC’s. I do not lock below minor, and don’t lock in areas that don’t seem edited much or incredibly busy. I of course don’t want to stonewall junior editors from being able to do anything. But am open to any guidance you have on this matter.

Should I continue where I left off? Or shall I wait until more people weigh in on this?

-Ski

I would suggest checking for locks before making changes. Likely we’ll need to figure out a way to coordinate to unlock first.

Regarding locking the road types my input would be:

freeway & ramp - 5
major & minor - 3
anything less - 1

Supposedly eventually Waze will be locking automatically by usage of the roads. The whole locking system stinks but this is the only method to prevent damage to the map…

Let’s get some more input here before you continue please.

Very well. I have updated the subject line to a more appropriate title.

Guess I’ll go downgrade my locks (4) in LA for everything I’ve changed after the work is done. And yes, you should to change the entire run of each class. FYI earth.dot.ca.gov is far more usable for this task than the individual CRS maps assuming you’re using either Windows or a Mac.
