Can UK support U-Turns?

 Ok, just to throw a little spanner in the works

I am a taxi driver as most of you know… I know the turn that we are talking about in Oxford - where the restriction says “except Buses, taxis and Licensed Private hire vehicles”

Guess that A;- I’ll get strange instructions & B;- I’ll create MP’s

Before we can embrace U-turns we need waze to support vehicle types - which I understand will happen “SOON”…

I’d rather you (who knows the score) gets the strange instructions than the average Waze user gets crappy ones.

I don’t think so. At the UK Meetup, they were talking about removing the part of the UI that allows you to set restrictions for different vehicle types.

As Tim reminded me today:

In case you don’t know, Cartouche was a previous version of the map editor. It had just been replaced by the current editor (Papyrus) when I joined Waze in 2012. There was talk about counties coming soon then.

Given how long we’ve waited for counties - which is basically the same thing as the working states in the US, I’d be pleasantly surprised if we get vehicle types before 2020.

In an ideal world we’d be given the tools necessary to allow vehicle-type specific routing restrictions. In the Waze world, we just have to do the best we can within the limitations of what we’ve got. And as Iain’s comment indicates, most Waze users won’t be able to ignore access restrictions, so it makes most sense to adjust the map based on what will give the best in-app experience for them.

And yes, adopting this approach means that drivers like yourself will start to generate MPs if you disregard the Waze route. However the flip side is that drivers like me, who can’t ignore access restrictions, then won’t be generating MPs, because Waze would no longer be generating routes that we have to disregard.

Hi,

As I posted previously it would be better if waze just started routing from your location and ignored completely what direction waze thinks you are pointing in (as it usually gets that wrong!).
Users can then make a decision as to drive straight, U turn or whatever to start their journey. Or maybe leave their driveway/garage and continue!

Des. . .

CTCNetwork, I find this a problem also.
I wonder if it would be possible for Waze to give the most optimal route from the start, this may involve a uturn. The only time I can see this being a problem is when a re-calculation is required when a user misses an instruction. So perhaps some logic could be applied, perhaps, if it saves more than 5 minutes then provide a route that involves a uturn?

I have another example on Edinburgh Rd, Portsmouth which I have now enabled.

Just like the Oxford High Street situation, only part of this road has a buses/taxis restriction and there are road markings for other vehicles to U-turn.
