As far as TTS goes, “N1 North” is pronounced exactly the same way as “N1 (N)”. However, I’ve pushed quite strongly for the latter to be standardized (over at the standards subforum) as I think the shorter form works far better on the client display, and is in line with the UK standards for naming. The US standards are slightly different in that they spell it “N1 N” with no parentheses around the cardinal, but still the same insofar as they use an abbreviated form of the cardinal rather than spelling it out in full.
Is there any update on this? My opinion is that “N1 North” is more visually appealing than the alternatives.
