Carpool Lane

There should be a way to indicate if I’m driving in the carpool lane and thus am moving faster than regular traffic. I don’t want to give a false sense of speed and throw off projections if I’m moving faster than someone in the regular lanes!

Check out this section of the Waze Wiki: http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Car_pool%2C_(HOV)%2C_Transit_Lanes

Generally Waze does not yet have full support for Carpool lanes. Especially problematic are Carpool lanes that are adjacent to the regular lanes, mapped or not (sometimes Waze will have you snapped to the incorrect ‘road’ even if the Carpool lane is mapped). If you are driving in a Carpool lane at a rate of speed faster (or slower) than the traffic in the regular lanes and Waze has you snapped to the regular lanes, you will be contributing invalid traffic data into the Waze system.

Agree with everything on this post, and looking forward to the waze up date for carpool lanes. I use the carpool lane 2-3 times a week in the bay area

I would think it depends on the type of HOV lane. The ones in Houston are very distinct from the rest of the Interstate. You can’t move in and out of them freely like you can in Atlanta and Dallas. Those are placed on the far left lane of the highway, but there’s no barrier in between them and you can move freely between the two.

True, but a big part of the issue is lane accuracy. I see UR’s all the time where the person was on the freeway but Waze snapped them onto an adjacent frontage road with much more than a barrier of separation. And thanks to the wide variety of GPS quality out there I doubt this will ever be an easy fix.
