Content Translation Extension added!

Hi All,

It’s been a long time coming, but the content translation is now active!

You can see a bit about how it works here. If you have additional questions, let me know and we will build an article about it in the Wazeopedia Help Portal in the coming weeks.

Thanks for your patience and I hope it is a helpful tool for your communities

Thank you for the update. My question, as written in the hangout:

If a user uses this function to translate global Wiki articles into a new language, how do people access this? So far, there is no language selection option in the global Wiki. Will this appear automatically, once one or more articles are translated, or is this done by staff administratively?

Best,

Detlev

The idea that we discussed a while back was to make a “Link to relevant local wiki article” list on the bottom of the pages. Once a community had a page that was translated (possibly with additional local rules) then it would be linked to from there.

The decision from a poll a while back was not to hold translated articles in the Global wiki, but rather in each local space.

If there are any objections to this plan, let me know.

Best,
karen

Thank you, Karen. It took me a moment to remember the poll, but now that I found it - it was this particular poll that fused the foundation of the “Wiki commitee” that wrote a concept paper.

The commitee agreed on a concept for Wazeopedia that - among other things - settled such questions. It was published here:

https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/Global/Wazeopedia:About

Yet, it seems that it was deleted in the migration process?

Best,

Detlev

Edit: I wrote here that it would be listed on the bottom of the pages, but it should be listed on the Sidebar, as they do in Wikipedia.

I’ll also check on that page…

Folks,

How stable is this translation engine? Trying to help the MY community translating some stuff from English to Malay, the tool won’t save, but instead give Saving the translation failed: Unknown error: “tpt-unknown-page” error. O_o

Hi,

I’m trying to use the translate tool to make a start in translating our new BeNeLux wiki but hit everytime the error “Error saving translation: Unknown error: “TPT-unknown-page””. On https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T159947 it is suggested that the job that was created when you marked the page for translation failed or got lost. This could be checked with
running php extensions/Translate/scripts/createMessageIndex.php.

Can someone help me out with this one?

Regards,
Dirk Brouwer

I have tried using this tool once more and failed. I created the page in the Brazilian wiki with the content in the help tutorial, after that Tenlucas (Wazeopedia admin) marked the page as to be translated. But when I try to translate it the page shows an error saying that my language is the original language of the page. (Error: português do Brasil é o idioma original desta página.)

Is there a way to set the original language as english?

Know problem. Sooner or later it will be hopefully fixed

Has anyone used it successfully?

Until to-date, the translation for Malay & Chinese still un-able to save. The saving error message has been change (as show in the screenshot below) :-

Hey Guys

We fixed the recently identified issues here and the translation should be working as intended now.

Please give it a try and let us know if you run into any issues.

Thanks!
Karen

Thanks!
The translation for Wazeopedia Malaysia is now working
