i have been using Waze for a few months now and am really enjoying it. i hope that current users and newcomers will use this thread on the forum to discuss issues and highlight map problems in the Cork City area.
Of course, problems can be highlighted via the App too.
i’m not sure why, but the area i manage seems to have extended further east and north. i didn’t realise i covered half of cobh! i had added some cobh roads previously as i have driven there though, so maybe that explains it. i will try to sort those out.
i have been concentrating mostly on the city, as it was virtually totally unmapped previously. areas that were mapped weren’t named, so forgive me if i neglect some country areas at times
Hi Roland
Happy new year
I added some extra roads in the Cobh area over the Christmas break: I haven’t edited them fully, I just designated them all as streets. I like to add streets first as I think it is important to have some streets on the map to encourage (new) users. I hope to complete the naming, prioritisation and junctions over the next few weeks
Well, the city is finally basically complete on the northside. There are some changes still required on the southside, particularly the renaming of suburbs from “Cork” to their suburb name.
The last major change made has been the renaming of the N25 ring road to the N40 ring road, along with the creation and naming of each junction on it. The road name change came into effect in the recent Roads Act amendment, but the signposting is still being changed over as i type, so users might see some slight discrepancies over the next few weeks.
Unfortunately, the number of editors seems thin on the ground down here, though i did notice some changes in the editor lately. I’d really like to get to know some of you on the forum here, so we could organise priorities for the area into the future, and not create edits which clash with each other.
I see now my previous post about updating Cobh, Roland.
Most of the streets in the town are now named, though the country roads are still somewhat lacking as i am less familiar with them. Also, my editing privileges don’t extend to the last mile on the east of the island, though there are very few roads and houses there. Does your area in east Cork cover it?
I note that very large portions of the aerial photography of Cork county have been updated!
Finally, things are no longer fuzzy in places like Fermoy, Midleton and Mallow, to name just 3 towns.
If any Cork-based users or nationally-enabled editors are interested, I hope to make a big push in the next two weeks to map more of the county, to north and east of the city at least.
I haven’t looked elsewhere on the map, but assume other parts of the country have also had imagery updates
Good to see some new Wazers editing in the Cork area.
Before making any additions or edits to the map, you will find it very useful to:
Watch the Waze editing videos on YouTube and on the Editor.
Read the Waze wiki on road naming and road typing rules specific to Ireland.
Also especially important to make sure junctions are correct at end of each new road segment: creating a segment in and of itself doesn’t ensure correct junctions.
This all saves many hours of trying to remember and retrospectively fix all your new edits if you discover an error in your methodology.
