The National Park Service has been rebuilding the George Washington Parkway. At this time, they have largely paved the northern section (I-495 to Spout Run Parkway) but the remaining section is still old, rugged, full of potholes. Could someone here mark the section (Spout Run Parkway to Mount Vernon) as “Unfavoured“ in “Routing”? There are parallel routes nearby and I’m really frustrated when Waze gives a route that passes through GW Parkway.
Btw I understand that the Parkway is mostly in VA, but it’s within DC metro area, and does pass through DC (Columbia Island).
Hi thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, we don’t have an effective way to impact routing in the way that you are expecting.
The routing preference controls don’t actually control how likely you are to get a specific road for a route around town. Instead, it only impacts very long routes, like from NC to PA.
Your best bet is to view alternate routes in the app using the ROUTES button or to add a stop along your preferred route to force Waze to go in that direction
In my understanding, changing “Routing” to “Unfavored” would effectively downgrade the road from “Major Highway” to “Minor Highway” for algorithms (despite still showing the same color as Major Highway on map), thereby reducing possibility of Waze routing through the road. Hence I believe it will still be helpful.
Reducing the Waze road type from Major Highway to Minor Highway doesn’t reduce the possibility of Waze routing of the road. Highway road types are primarily a signal for very long routes, like those hundreds of miles long. It will not have any impact on your daily trips.
