Keep these points in mind when mapping in South Sudan:

Pavement is Rare: Most roads are unpaved. At this time, donβt use the unpaved
on any road. -
Driving is on the RIGHT side of the road.

Road type should be marked based on good sense at this time.
Speed Limits
According to the South Sudan Traffic Act and international safety standards, the following speed limits apply:

Urban Areas (Cities/Towns): 50 km/h

Rural Roads (Outside built-up areas): 90 km/h

Main Highways (Outside built-up areas): 110 km/h

Motorways (Freeway); 130 km/h
Lock levels
At this time, the following lock levels have been defined:

Freeways should be locked to level 5 (
) , including their associated ramps & junctions. -
Major highways should be locked to level 4 (

Minor Highways should be locked at minimum level 3 (
) . Complex junctions or particularly important sections may be locked at level 4 (
). -
Primary streets should be locked at minimum level 2 (
). -
Roads shall remain on autolock or level (
). -
Railroads should be locked at level 4 (
) to prevent accidental deletion.
Landmarks:
At this time only focus on:
- Airports.
- Law Enforcement: Police services and the judicial system (courts).
- Emergency Services: Fire departments and search-and-rescue teams.
- Education
