Fixing a route [Alberta, Canada]

Look at the root between Edmonton, AB and Fort McMurray, AB. It gives an 11 hour route when it’s only supposed to be 5.5 hrs.

I found the problem starts between road ID 59323128 and 59337608. Along the second road there is no route from Edmonton AB. There is a dead spot which causes Waze to use the round about way. I think the cause might be intersecting private road ID 59241436, which seems to have no direction. I have not driven the road so I can’t edit it myself.

Problem starts between -111.59518, 56.27975 and -111.59518, 56.27972

I’ll move this to the Update Requests forum, where it’ll get more visibility.

It’s probably not there. After checking it in Livemap it seems that this is just the result of many minor map errors compounding each other. I can get it to route from Edmonton to around here on 63 Hwy, and I can get it to route from around here on 63 Hwy–much farther south–to Fort McMurray, so it isn’t any single problem like a disconnected road somewhere along the path.

Unless someone else comes up with a better reason, my guess is that there are a lot of incorrect turn restrictions along 63 and possibly some of the other roads used to get to 63. I’ll wait for some others to look at it and if nothing else is suggested, I can take out all the turn restrictions along 63.

This continues to be a problem - Waze does not route properly between Edmonton and Fort McMurray. URs keep popping up over it, as it still tries a ~950km route instead of the standard ~450km route.

In attempting different end points on my phone, the closest point to Edmonton to which Waze routes badly is at

If you navigate to “N56.128117 W111.787854” from Edmonton you can possibly reproduce on the phone.

There is another small roadway (https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=4&lat=56.10837&lon=-111.82264&layers=BTTFTTTFTTFTTTTFTTTTFT&segments=59045182) to the west of Highway 63 just south of this point to which Waze does route correctly, but there are no bad turn restrictions.

I haven’t driven this so there’s nothing I can do, but there are URs in my area, so I’m resurrecting this thread and providing some more detail so that perhaps someone else can do something…

I fixed a few things, so it should be ok after the next map update after next week’s.
