Localization Community

Beta Leader Suggestion Moderators (SugMods)
The wonderful group of Beta Leaders Suggestion Moderators reviewed dozens of Centercode suggestions, changed their statuses to reflect their true priority and escalated many to staff. Here are some of the suggestions that were implemented during H2:

WME Uservoice

14 Community Suggestions have been added to Beta or Prod in H2 2021:

Carpool

  • Our super carpoolers actively participated in community conversations and meetings and advocated for Carpool even though their app usage is lower due to the pandemic

  • New Carpool experience
  • Chat update
  • We welcomed new members to the Partners Community
  • Some super carpoolers volunteered to take part in a pilot in Brazil to check the community’s interest in long distance routes

Support Community

  • Our Waze Help Community pilot program (TailWind) has made a lot of progress:
  • Updated Waze-specific topic categories
  • Support in 6 languages (EN, ES, PT, FR, IT, DE).
  • We have achieved a core group of 15 Product Experts from the Community, and are in the process now of onboarding 125 more to the pilot program.

Social Media Community

  • Members of the Social Media community shared official assets on their pages and groups, using the resources available on the Social Media Hub
  • New campaigns were announced and their assets shared through the Social Media forum
  • Social Media Avatars were shared for 30+ countries

Localization community
Who answered the survey?

  • +100 localizers,translating in +40 languages!
  • Top 4 languages: Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (LATAM), Dutch and Finnish.

Top insights:

  • Happy to be part of this community despite that now we don’t have too much to translate.
  • As a Language Coordinator, it would be helpful to have access to my team’s work statistics. It is not necessary that there are people who have stopped translating a long time ago.

2022 Focus:

  • Need to improve communication and leadership structure.
  • Clarify Bugs flow.
  • Organize Roles and clarify processes.

Community Promotions
New Global Champs:

  • Rdnnk - Netherlands
  • Ianinessex - UK
  • Hugo_moreira - Portugal

Crisis & Traffic Events

In H2 2021, we handled a total of 1,342 closures in 23 locations:

  • Most events were handled in the US, Brazil, France, Argentina and Portugal.
  • Among the handled crises were floods, fires, volcano eruptions, fuel shortage, protests and collapsed buildings.

Thanks to everyone who contributed. Stay safe!

In Memoriam: Iainhouse
The Waze Communities mourn the passing of Iainhouse, and send deepest condolences to his friends and family. Iain was an amazing person who deeply touched many members of our community. He embodied everything it means to be a Map Editor and a Global Champ, through his eagerness to help other editors and teach new skills, to his prolific contributions to the community with over 10k Forum posts and numerous scripts. Iain will be dearly missed. To honor his legacy, we’ve created this Forum Badge for those who want to memorialize Iain to wear with pride.

Communities Team Updates

During H2 the Communities team in TLV underwent a few changes:
We said goodbye to Hadas, Tamar, Dean and Erez
We welcomed -

  • Anat Z, who’s now leading the Crisis Response team
  • Danit, who took over for Erez and is now in charge of everything related to Meetups

Wazeopedia

  • The Wazeopedia Team is currently working on implementing the new skin for Wazeoepdia, which will be aligned with the new Waze brand and the forum.
  • The new skin is much more clean and clear, and enables users to easily find what they are looking for and navigate through the wide content Wazeopedia offers.
  • In this DECK you can find more info about how we plan to upgrade the Main Page and the Global Wiki, giving YOU more options to make your wiki page more accessible and welcoming to community members.
  • We plan to open the New Wazeopedia in Beta in Jan 2022, so stay tuned for that!

Forum

  • After the forum launch in June 2021, the forum team has fixed many open bugs, you can see the bugs that were fixed in this forum. If you encounter new bugs/suggestions to the forum, please report them in the Bugs Forum.
  • The Forum team worked on necessary infrastructure tasks that were essential for the forum performance.
  • The Forum team is working on developing CHAT on the forum! The chat is based on infrastructure that is already working well for Waze Carpool. At the first stage the chat will be between two forum users on the forum and the plan is to have the chat in the WME. In this DECK you will learn about the phases for the chat implementation, mockups, and Q&A.
  • We want to highlight specific posts and events that we don’t want the community to miss, for that we will use the new mockups for updates to the banners on the Forum and Wazeopedia. You can read more here.
