House Numbers Update Schedule

I vote for bugs.

Wish my vote counted.

A long time ago I prioritized fixing the GMM pin over fussing with Waze, but then I discovered to my horror that Google seems to have some kind of self repair bot. At least, I found I couldn’t count on my GMM fixes sticking, even when there was nothing about them to which I could imagine a human would object. That and maddening experiences trying to get obvious, significant problems solved (e.g. A Walmart pin off by a quarter mile, but getting it fixed was nigh impossible) and I hardly ever look at GMM any more.

Lately, the fastest fix for Google pin locations seems to be ā€˜feedback’ in Google Maps, rather than GMM. (at least for me!)

I have the same experience. Just easier to work with. Have no idea whether the fix ā€œsticksā€ any better than GMM.

I’d always assumed that Waze eventually would make its own internal search database the first go-to, once more HNs are confirmed and Places are better refined. I hope that’s true, and giddily await that day.

But meanwhile I find myself correcting both Waze and Google pins if time permits (a very big IF). Plus submitting corrections to YP, Yelp and/or Foursquare, if those seem to be the source of the misdirect. Exhausting.

Reviving this with some clarifications from Waze thru a helpful GC. Emphasis added.

HNs defiitely seem to get used more quickly than they did a year ago. Sometimes it seems to take a couple of tile builds. Are there different kinds of tile builds? Regular ones and … irregular ones?

When adding a house number the area needs to be larger. I add a lot of HN’s in rural country areas and I sometimes cant even get the house number close to the house.

There’s a cheat for that. Just drag the road closer to the HN location, save, add the HN, then drag the road back to it’s proper position and save again.

I encountered this problem for the first time today. I was adding addresses in a neighborhood that had no street names so I added them. Then to satisfy a UR I tried to add an RPP on the ā€œnewā€ street. I’m wondering if my particular problem is that I need to have a tile update in order to attach the RPP.

RPPs are finicky. If you can’t save one, first check that all confirmed HNs on the street have stop points that are in numerical order on each side - you may need to move some of them temporarily to accomplish this. If all HNs are confirmed and no HNs are forced then this won’t be an issue.

If you still can’t save the RPP, then delete the corresponding HN and wait TWO tile updates. There appears to be a hidden HN layer that needs to be reindexed to clear the conflict, and I believe it’s the same one that gets updated every other tile update. You should now be able to add the RPP, and then (if you want to) add the HN back (it has no effect on navigation when you have an RPP, but can be helpful in locating the building on the map).

I’ve also run into issues trying to put an RPP too far from the road of its address, or too far from the corresponding Google pin. Sometimes you can fake out the location by temporarily moving the road as suggested above, or temporarily renaming a short section of the nearest road. In the latter case you may again need to wait one or two tile builds, and don’t forget to undo the name change. If the Google pin is too far away, the only solution may be to move the Google pin first.

Thanks for the response. In my case this was an area where the roads were mapped but not named and there were no street numbers. I had just named the streets. I’m thinking that since the RPPs attach immediately to the live map, they can’t do that before the tile update that will apply the street name.

i was going to 7019 belle meadow lane Richmond Texas. At the final junction instead of turning left Waze said i should turn right.which lead me to a wrong address

Currently there are no house numbers associated with Bell Meadow Lane that I see in the map.

If you would like to go into the map editor and please update the house numbers yourself, by all means, please feel free. If you need any assistance doing so, you can try asking other Texas editors in the Texas Slack Chat Room or respond here =).

With regard to RPPs not saving:

I have no found with the help of another local editor that most of the time when RPPs don’t save, the problem is with the city name. They have to match. Correcting the name has solved the problem for me twice now.

What is the problem? You have one HN on the segment selected above.

From one of USA SM:

Address-based routing search preference changed in production.

New search order (stops at first one found);

  1. RPP
  2. Waze HN
  3. Google HN
No longer any weird ā€œWaze HN used as long as google house number exists and is ā€˜close enough’ to google HNā€

So even if Waze HN is not nudged it still Routes to the segment that the anchor is attached to.

The announcement may have been a bit premature, it also said there are still some details to be worked out, so I’m sure we’ll be filled in at some point, hopefully soon.

Hi. This is my first time to post. I read some statements about updating house numbers, about imported location. I would like to request that my house number be put in Waze. How can I do it? Thanks.

You can do it yourself from the app. If you go to the Places report, then tap ā€œThis is a residential placeā€, then fill in the info on the screen, you will have added your house number to the map. Just be sure to do this from your driveway or at your house, not down the street or anything. Your other option is to post this in your local forum (assuming you are in the US) so a local editor can handle your request.
