How do you search the forums

Pretty much every phrase I enter into the search box for the forums returns the same message:

“The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: [word].
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.”

In fact I have not been able to search successfully once for a range of words and phrases. Here are just a couple if anyone wants to test:
“remove junction”
“delete junction”

Anyone know what’s up?

The forum search included with PhPBB is quite limited in it’s functionality. The Wiki and elsewhere on the forum recommends using Google as it’s bot crawls the site regularly. Open a Google Search windows and enter:

site:waze.com/forum “search term/phrase/keyword” (without quotes)

Example: I want to search for “Allow All Turns Mode” when adding a junction I/You would enter:

A) site:waze.com/forum All All Turns Mode or
B) site:waze.com/forum “Allow All Turns Mode”

You can research the Google Syntax elsewhere, but A) will get you all words within your query and B) will only pull the exact phrase within the quotes.

This should work for most of your needs. Hope this helped.

Cheers mate. Yeah that’s what I ended up doing. Although it’s weird. I’ve been on a few PHPBB forums in the past and not seen the search functionality quite so bad.

Missed the recommendation in the Wiki. Maybe admins could make this a sticky?

The forums here have never worked for searching for me. No matter what I put in to search, or if I limit to specifics under the Advanced search, I always get the “you’ve entered common search terms which have been ignored.” I have never had the forum search return any results other than that message. (And in this case, “never” is not an exaggeration.)

I’ve had the search work for me quite a few times, I’m just really specific.

However, I’d say about 75% of the time it still doesn’t work for me. Like others have said, the search functionality is limited. Just use google.

I have not been able to get the search to work ever. It is really frustrating and should be a priority because if I cant search easily I am going to end up posting questions that have probably been answered a hundred times and waste everyones time.

I know that the devs are working hard to improve the program but they need to take care of the community as well. We are the ones that are spending our free time updating and fixing the maps and easy access to help can mean the difference between an engaged user-base and ones that says “screw it” and keeps using their garmen or google maps.

Don’t forget the search the Wiki first. The search works and should have the answer to any question.

The google trick posted above is pretty easy… :?
