Thank you for reaching out via Waze Discuss and a very warm welcome to you on behalf of the Australian editing community. I’m reivaxX162 - one of QLD’s State Managers from the Waze volunteer community.
I understand some videos are out of date as Waze continuously makes updates to the Waze Map Editor, however the video context is still relevant. Have you started watching the videos via the new editor page?
Regarding how you level up, a structure has been developed to ensure integrity is maintained for the road network. This is to ensure reduced vandalism from editors who either intentionally or unintentionally make changes to the Waze map. As a level 1 editor, you can make edits to level 1 locked segments and places that are within 1 mile of your driving area. You can see where your editable area by ticking the “editable areas” option in the map layers menu (in the top right corner of the map). To see how you can reach level 2, 3 and so on, more information is here. Although some roads can be locked to level 2, 3, 4 or 5, these can be temporarily unlocked for editors like yourself to make changes.
