Introduce yourself!

Hi Arthur and welcome!

Always helpful to have people adding/updating the details on these with their local knowledge. If you need help, there’s a friendly community of editors around - here in the forum, on Discord etc.

I’ve never seen this information live-published on the Internet. Even if it was, we don’t have a way of getting it into Waze.

For some of the items you can report, you can add a comment that is displayed to people when they get the alert. I can’t remember whether Police is one of those. But there isn’t defined list to select from - would require the Waze developers to set it up, and also to set up the list of appropriate items for each country. Plus it would require people being able to report safely - personally if I was driving solo I wouldn’t see myself being able to report anything that I couldn’t do it one or two taps, especially with the increasingly strict laws on phone usage while driving. (Personally I never report RBT anyway.)

I wouldn’t see this happening. Waze is designed for better navigating and alerting people to traffic and driving hazards. It’s not designed to help people evade the law or parking fees.

Hello there.

Seems this is a probably long history thread, trying to introduce here though.

I am Simon, a research assistant/software engineer living in Perth area, Western Australia. Has become a Waze user for around 3 years and I do really love using Waze. Occasionally driving around the city and deliver catering.

I will be really happy if I can make the map in Perth better - up-to-date closure information, road status change and so on. Of course, I would be really happy to perform map edits and updates to make it better.

P.S: is there any AM for Perth metro area that is active in this forum?

A very warm welcome! Your contributions to WA would be much appreciated.

MiniDooper is the State Manager for WA. Feel feel to join our discord server (link in my signature below) and you can more easily talk with other AMs in WA

Little late to the party, but thought I should introduce myself.

Hey, I’m Tim. Originally from NSW in the Sutherland Shire area but recently relocated to Wyndham Vale VIC. Been using Waze for just over a year now and we’ve just moved into a newly built estate area with quite a few roads missing. I’ll do what I can to assist in adding road names, missing roads, etc. but I do apologise in advance if I do something stupid in my editing life. I’ve reviewed the wiki and all the videos I could find to assist me

Happy wazing

Welcome aboard. Reach out either here on discord if you ever get stuck. LostInMyMaps sig above has all the good links

Hi Team.

My name is Michael and I’m from the North Parramatta area. Been using Waze for a couple of years now and really would like to do my part and help with this fantastic community.

With all the new road works, closures and changes in the area due to the new Light Rail system going in, I would very much like to help out and keep things as up to date as possible.

I have carefully read and watched the very helpful information available and do apologise in advance for any mistakes I make and hope to help in any way I can.

Michael.

Welcome Michael.

If you are interested you can check us out on Discord

See https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=257551 for more information about our Discord.

Welcome Tim and Michael! I hope to see you both on Discord.

The light rail is a nightmare when it comes to keeping maps updated - local knowledge is superior and we appreciate all help

Just started using Waze instead of Apple Maps in Carplay. Was a Garmin GPS user since 1992 - beta testing them in the Sahara among other places.

Found Apple Maps not to my liking, so moved to Waze.

As for me… Polish descent Brit, living the dream in South Australia, surrounded by vineyards.

Good on you BaronZuZu. Awesome to see more Aussie Wazers joining in

Welcome mate! Make sure you join us on the Discord server so we can stay in touch and help you with tips

Hey all,

Big welcome! Nice to have you onboard. Also, very proactive of you already joining the Discord server.
We’re all really nice here, we encourage you to ask questions and we’re happy to teach. Check out the resources on #general I sent you.

Hello. I’m Alex from the northern suburbs of Melbourne. I first tried Waze around 2015 when I did part-time Uber driving. I’m pleased to see how far it has come since then.

I’m looking forward to being able to offer casual improvements to the local areas I drive around the most, especially where those fixes are simpler to just do myself rather than try to explain to (and create work for) others.

Best wishes.

Gday I’m Ollie,

Have been using Waze for some time now over 50k kms. Engineering Draftsman & Technical Officer by trade, but currently work in a Safety & Learning & Development role. I use Waze as my primary mapping app in all of my travel around Sydney (including surrounds, Blue Mountains, Wiseman’s Ferry up to Gosford) & around Canberra (living just outside the border on the North side).

I love the user centric data that Waze displays & have started utilising the map editor as a way of giving back & improving some of the data in rural and regional areas around me. I am currently also studying Emergency Management where having the correct geospatial information in a timely manner can be crucial for decision making. I also volunteer with both the Rural Fire Service & State Emergency Service where Waze is a godsend for getting to incidents via faster routes.

Cheers

Hi Ollie,

Welcome! I am the State Manager for ACT and it’s great to see your feedback regarding RFS/SES. The local Waze community worked very hard last summer during the bushfire season on the east coast to ensure road closures were kept as up to date as possible and community shelters were marked and udpated.

We also have an online community of fellow Wazers on our Discord server. Chat with fellow editors, ask questions and contribute your ideas.

Cheers

KT

Thanks for saying hi! We definitely would benefit from your local knowledge about Melbourne - especially with closures which aren’t reliably published. Remember you can hit us up if you need a road unlocked so you can edit it. Most of us are sitting around on the Waze Australia Discord server (link in my sig) if you ever want to chat to us about roads or editing. Lots of experienced editors around to help.

GBSpeedy1305 is one of your state managers. Very knowledge guy if you want any local advice. But we’re all here to help.

Hey Alex! We appreciate any local knowledge you have to offer, especially road changes and closures you see while driving.

Have you enjoyed the roll out of lane guidance in Melbourne? The app is certainly growing and improving, with new features being added all the time.

Similarly to above, GBSpeedy1305 is one of your state managers. Very knowledge guy if you want any local advice. But we’re all here to help.

G’day Ollie! I hope you’re surviving the border controls into the ACT right now. You certainly seem to get around the country.

I recall the ferries have regular maintenance closures in NSW which I’ve been trying to add more reliably. Has it always been mapped correctly for you?

Emergency management? Nice! If you hit me up via PM or on Discord, I can send you some whitepapers on Waze’s disaster response and crisis capabilities which might be of interest to you. I volunteer in RFS Comms, and often have Waze open on one screen because MVAs appear there sooner than the triple zero call comes in.

Hey there

I’m new to the Australian community, but used to live in SA 2 years back. Travelled all over Australia back then.

I’ve been an active editor in the German community for 13 months now, currently at L3.

Couldn’t resist to accept the offer to help get Tasmania up to date and will support the effort as an Area Manager.

Looking forward to meet you all in Discord or the WME.

Cheers
