Hi!

Just a quick post to introduce myself. I’m Dave, and spend most of my time in SE London & Kent. I’ve been using Waze for navigation for a few years now, but have only recently started helping(?!) out on the map editing front. Expect, therefore, to see a few posts from me on here - please be gentle! 😉

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave, a very warm welcome to you!

I’m still fairly new to editing myself, it’s a bit of a headache when you first start, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. Ask ANY question you want, we are all here to help each other. I’m in SE London, so if I can help out with anything, i’ll try my best.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this guide, but try having a look through these wiki pages for advice: [https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/United\_Kingdom](https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/United_Kingdom)

Hope you enjoy editing and being part of the Waze community!

Richard

Welcome Dave,
I think we’ll prove to be a friendly bunch.

Happy editing, but be warned it can be addictive

Also a welcome to you, Dave.

I live in South London and cover most of the area, but range much wider down to Cornwall and South Wales too. As Richard said, ask any questions you like. Some of us can be grumpy when the same questions is asked for the 64th time and it’s clearly answered in the wiki, so please don’t be upset if the response is a link to the wiki for you to read - I know it’s a lot to read, but you’ll get so much more out of editing when you can use a variety of the scripts that are available to make using WME more efficient.

One thing to watch out for is locks. Much of London is locked way above your editing level. We have had bouts of vandalism when people have tried to destroy the map so locking was developed to try and guard against that. Then Waze introduced auto-locks, where Waze locks a segment depending on the amount of traffic using it - the more traffic, the higher the lock level. In the UK, we settled on a maximum autolocklevel of 4, and it’s surprising how many minor streets in London have reached that. You’ll end up having to request unlocks in the Editor Unlock sub-forum to make quite minor changes, and, unfortunately, that’s an indicator of how many Waze users are dependent on our work keeping the map up to date and accurate.

As Mark said, though, it’s incredibly addictive and if you’ve not been issued the health warning, then be aware that Waze editing is so addictive - just that bit to finish off properly - that you’ll lose sleep, your partner will snarl at you and you’ll forget you have kids until they come and sit on the keyboard - no, that’s cats, isn’t it?!

We meet up once or twice a year with Waze or by ourselves, and they’re good opportunities to meet other editors and, sometimes, influence development. Welcome to the team!

I’ll say “Hi” as well. I’m one of the UK Country Admins and I live in SE London.

Originally I did a lot of work around here, so you’ll no doubt see my name around on the map. Nowadays, most of my editing is all over the country, mostly in the areas where nobody else does much. 🙂
