Iron Man Miami 2013

http://ironmanmiami.com/

Event is on the 27th. Waze is looking for info about closures so we can make this an “event” like Tour de France.

Does anyone have good information about when and where closures will be?

I would use the Course Maps from http://ironmanmiami.com/?p=10 as a base.

I would also suggest reaching out to the Press Contacts found here: http://ironmanmiami.com/?p=338. They should have the official closure information (because they are supposed to give it ot the local TV & Radio Stations and Newspapers), but if they don’t they should be able to point you to the correct person.

The link that is supposed to have the street closure information is broken. I have contacted Miami-Dade authorities, but best I have at present is the streets will be closed from 7-4. Not very helpful.

The concern Waze had with the maps on their site is that they are dated 2010. Does anyone know if the race indeed uses the same course from year to year?

Once we figure out what is closed, we need to gather permalinks which include every impacted segment and the times each segment is closed. (I have the google doc link to the spreadsheet that will collect all the data and I’ll share it with those who can help populate it.) Can you guys see this presentation?

Don’t forget to close the cross streets for one block on each side of the race course - I ran into that issue with the Hartford Marathon earlier this month (along with a few other issues that weren’t my fault).

So who’s going to be doing the “reaching-out” to the Ironman Press coordinator?

I wasn’t aware of this event until today (haven’t seen anything about it in the press, or TV) and was only made aware of it when Waze asked me about info on the Austin ironman, so I have an idea. This won’t happen until Thursday (due to busy day tomorrow), but I could run down to Miami-Dade PD and inquire, as they’ll be the ones shutting down roads, but in looking at the street map of the race, it looks like there’s using US-27 for the bike route, and maybe 10 streets downtown. The google maps view isn’t the greatest. The run course is mostly walking trails, and I have a feeling for the part that’s on US-1, they’re closing down one lane of the 3 lanes in one direction. The bridge that goes across the water has a sidewalk on the side of it (pretty big sidewalk) so I’m thinking the bridge won’t be closed, either. Miami-Dade PD would be the best place to contact.

That presentation I linked to seems to indicate that Waze will automatically take into account any cross street. But the example image only seems to show full cross streets and not just roads that T into the road. So I don’t know for sure what is done.

I just requested access to the presentation, so I’ll take a look when (and if) you give me permission . If I remember correctly, it didn’t and users actually dropped more closure reports around the race course. They MAY have been on roads that were closed more than one block away from the course, but I’m not sure…

Presentation was shared with me by Waze, so hopefully they pay attention and let you in

The race is Sunday and today is already Thursday. Not sure if Waze will be able to do anything with the event at this point due to their weekend :frowning:
