Junction advice - Northamptonshire - (Orton Rd)

My Level: 4
Reason for request: This junction has been annoying me for most of this evening. Can anyone suggest a better way of dealing with it? I’d like to avoid using TIOs but can’t think of a way.

Given that Orton Road coming from the south kinks to the right and ends in a give-way line, I think that adjusting the angles to you get a “turn left” instruction there is entirely appropriate.

I’m not a fan of "continue"s anyway, but the kink points the driver at the centre of the not-a-roundabout, so “turn left” is better.

Funnily enough, I’d spotted this junction before I saw that it had been posted here and I’ve amended the geometry a bit and removed a couple of the TIOs. Don’t think you can really get away without not having a TIO at the exit from the services. Road markings here are a bit odd, seem to indicate a right turn only, but looks like a left turn is allowed, so a ‘none’ voice prompt is probably best here. I’ve locked the segments to L4 to prevent the angles/geometry being altered.

Thanks. I think whatever change you make you always end up with a compromise for at least one of the turns…I wish they’d just put a roundabout in.

The only issue I’d have with the set up now, is that traffic travelling south to Orton will get a “in 300m turn left…” instruction, which could easily be confused with the left turn into the truck stop…

Do you mean on this segment?

I see what you mean, but putting a TIO here would then affect anyone turning left out of the truck stop. Perhaps it would be better to just simplify it to a single (straight-ish) road with a left turn only into the truck stop. Let me have a think

Decided that this would be the simplest way of mapping this with minimal TIOs and clearer navigation. This configuration sorts out the issue with the ambiguous turn left at the south end of the junction too.
