L3 Unlock - B5238, Wigan

Chaps (and chap-esses, possibly?),

A user has reported an incorrect turn here… https://world.waze.com/editor/?zoom=7&lat=53.5401&lon=-2.63154&layers=TBFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT and from what I can see, it’s a good shout.

I believe that the issue has arisen because the B5238 is a distinct dual carriageway with turns that are only allowed from certain sides. Looking at the linked area, if you are travelling south, you CAN turn in to both Bradford St and Green St, as well as exiting both roads on to the B5238 but only is a southerly direction. If the user was travelling north, the turns are not permitted.

I’m not sure what the official line on something like this should be. I think the B5238 needs to be identified as two roads, each flowing in one direction from the Caroline St junction on the north side, down to the Waterside Dr junction on the south side, to enable the turns in to Bradford St and Green St to be permissible.

The B5238 is L3 locked so I am unable to make any changes to this one.

There’s a few chap-esses around (you tell who they are because the single men start posting a lot of replies). But anyway, you’re probably right that this should be a dual carriageway, however I recommend you discuss with the previous editor of these sections to agree a way forward. Send them a private message. There might be a good reason why they left it as single.

I’d suggest that this road is fine to be mapped as single-carriage way, but the turns need to be restricted in the appropriate directions. As it happens, all turns out of Green St are restricted, so Waze will take whatever route it can find.

B5238 unlocked for you.
