Level4→L2 Unlock: Coventry (A46 / A45 Roundabout)

My Level: 2

Reason for request: After a few suggestions on a UR I decided to drive this, the only real way, and it turns out that the bypass road is now a dedicated slip road of its own.

Not sure what you’re proposing here.

Perhaps two separate exits from the A45 (W) rather than a single exit which then splits?

Ian

Sorry Ian, once again failed to state my intentions.

Yes, I’ve realigned it to be two separate exits, might need adjusting when aerials show better.

Please feel free to suggest amendments.

On a side note, please remove this camera.

Camera zapped.

Your change looks fine (glad to see you’ve picked up the new idea of naming slips with “>”). There is no guarantee that Waze will choose the bypass slip over the roundabout, but not much we can do about that. Relocked.

Ian

We could use Iain’s method using detour prevention.
Move the entry to the roundabout to 10m short of the exit to A46 and makle both at 90 degrees. If you run the entry close enough to the roundabout it all looks fine on the app

How’s that?

I can’t remember where Iain first did it but here is one I have set up on the new Heysham bypass: https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?env=row&lon=-2.77408&lat=54.07642&layers=933&zoom=8

Hah! I meant I’ve tried the edit, and hopefully it will work.

Angles look good but I think the entry and exit of the roundabout may have to be within 15 metres of each other. If so, I’d probably move the entry further west, running the road right next to the roundabout.

Cheers

Hmm … let’s wait for a map update and see which route Waze actually uses before tinkering any more. No point in distorting the roundabout further unless we need to.

Sorry to jump in (well it is my thread after all ;)) looks like you’re suggesting using Waze’s u-turn prevention rule by having 2 parallel segments less than 15m apart. Interesting usage, messes up the distances to / from roundabout a little but compromise is sometime required.

Yes, Mark (MKLightning) is quite rightly suggesting that the 90 degree angles won’t have any effect unless they are within 15m. I’ll move the roundabout entrance almost round to the exit if need be. But I just thought, let’s wait for a map tile update and find out what route Waze is actually using before doing this. It may well be that it will choose the roundabout-avoiding slip anyway, without needing any fiddling.

Ian

Looks like Waze is routing via the bypass lane, as one would hope. So I think we can probably close this one now?
