My Level: 3
Reason for request: Hi, can a Level 4 please connect this new road to the A428? There’s a new industrial park being constructed here. Thanks
Connected. All turns enabled.
You’re doing a good job keeping up with the new developments around there. ![]()
Ian
There’s loads isn’t there! I’ve also recently found the Image Overlay script, so having a bit of fun playing around with that too
Quick question on new developments/construction etc.
Is there a standard way of mapping them? Should we use area places, or are map comments and point places better?
edit: Oh, and this segments now needs to be simplifed

Now that we have them, I prefer area Map Comments.
Road simplified.
Cool, map comments it is then
I’ll leave a place point to it’s searchable and navigatable
Just to add my unwanted opinion…
When it is a housing development, doesn’t it make more sense to map these are Area Places. We have Construction site as a category, we can added URLs, phone numbers, show home opening times, developer names, all this is then available to wazers. When new housing developments are being built they are advertised by the development name as the roads won’t be named. This would then be searchable and for long term projects Google locations linked. I’ve gone as far as hack Tim’s Colour Highlights script to show these in a different colour so easy to differentiate/spot. Also on massive developments these can be covered a Map Comment with info for the overall development and still allow each sub-development to be mapped as an area place.
When Map Comments are used they are only useful to editors.
All valid points, but this can also be achieved with a place point. Just goes to show that we probably do need some standard approach to this ![]()
But then you have to map it twice :o
True, extra editing points ![]()
I’m happy to do it either way, I’ll let you and Ian argue it out
(but I do quite like your idea of covering larger individual area places with a map comment for larger developments)
Fair enough, I agree I’m thinking about it from an editing perspective. So I’d like to see a Map Comment reflecting the fact that images are out of date, etc. And if possible linking to planning documents showing the likely road layout.
I think we could probably benefit from having both, each directed to it’s own audience. There shouldn’t be too much need for duplication of information, since editors can see places too.
