Level5 Update: Oldham - Chadderton (A627(M) (S))

My Level: 4
Reason for request: Can I have an L5 editor review the response in this UR? The reporter has obviously not taken the distance to the instruction into accounts, but at looking at the straight on override, I don’t really see the need to have it there. What do you think?

Hi Keith,
There is a Champs discussion going on at the moment about these types of instrucions and where/when we should use them so I’ll use this as an example.

As for the UR - effective the A627 and A663 cross at this point, but the main carriageway is a continuation of one to the other.
They say "the A663 is sign posted as to turn off (and take the roundabout). " which is true for the A663 Eastbound, but the A663 Southbound is straight ahead but doesn’t seemed to be signed as such, just as “M’cr City Centre”.

Perhaps we should change the continuation instruction to match the signs rather than use the road name; so rather than ‘A663 - Broadway’ we could use ‘A663 (S)’ or ‘A663 > City Centre’.

That might be a better compromise. Please do that, if it doesn’t satisfy the reporter, he can report again.
