Ok I have found some stuff that still not quit as I remember changing it, in fact I found what looks to be some overlapping areas were content reflects the old details but also has the new edits I had made to the area. So things are not completely right.
So far I have checked the area that I permalinked to previously. The ‘ghost segments’ are now gone, and the area I had mapped is now there. Phew!
I can confirm this is still happening in my area e.g.:

Dobell Dr is duplicated.
Fortunately there’s heaps of un-edited hence unaffected areas i can access so i’ll play the sit and wait game for a bit longer.
In Indonesia, not all edits are back yet. I’ve added massive amounts of new roads during June 2-13, and until now, only parts of them are appearing. The rest are still not done.
In addition, the sync error is still occurring a lot of times. Not really sure when the next update is, but probably I’ll also do the ‘wait-and-see’ approach while monitoring the areas. 
In Austria and Germany Edits first had been returned, but now again some are missing and a nother Part of the returned edits cant’t be edited behause of errors!
That’s boring … Perhaps they shoudn’t have invested so much time in selling themselfe to google

Looks like my edits have returned. Let’s hope this means we’ll be back to updates again some time soon.
I got the same just now in my areas. So frustrating. Duplicates are all over places as well!
