It’s a Highways England closure so Closure Monitor ought to pick it up. I’ll try to remember to check this evening.

Upon further investigation (on [roadworks.org](http://roadworks.org)) it looks like it’s only closing one lane of the slip road. So Monitor shouldn’t pick it up - and it hasn’t 🙂

Hi Ian

I tried to join the A303 at this location this evening and it was closed, I decided to after you saying it was only one lane to risk it - had I followed my gut instinct I’d have headed out on the M4 - this added 1 hour to my journey by going this way.

I’m guessing the reason the Highways England closure / Closure monitor didn’t pick it up was that it was just the ramp that was closed. Interestly when I swapped to Google Maps this Ramp / Slip Road was closed -

Where are they getting their data feed from… I thought it was via Waze !!!

Sorry to hear of your delay.

It’s sad that Highways England can’t produce consistently reliable data. The entry - from data HE provided - on [roadworks.org](http://roadworks.org) seemed quite clear when I looked at it, only one lane closed, not the whole slip road. Unfortunately it’s gone now so I can’t go back and check.

I’m guessing that the feed Monitor looks at looked the same as [roadworks.org](http://roadworks.org) - only a lane closure and not a full road closure.

Monitor does frequently close slip roads, and not just on motorways. [Here is an A303 slip](https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor/?zoom=5&lat=51.200000&lon=-1.447200&segments=121885958&guid=1425465&from=51.2027,-1.4498&to=51.2004,-1.4486&marker=true&future=1) it closed last night.

Obviously we can’t close whole roads when there’s just a lane closure, otherwise we’d shut half the motorway network each night! I don’t think there’s anything to be done except bemoan the unreliability of HE data - while still acknowledging that it’s right enough of the time to make it better to use than to ignore it.

Ian
