I spotted a user report on the M3/A303 junction a few days ago, and as I was heading to Micheldever today I made sure to go around that way and drive the junction to see the issues. Report is around https://world.waze.com/editor/?lon=-1.1799&lat=51.20766&zoom=5&layers=BTTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTFTTTTFT
It’s obviously all locked well above my level 1, but I agree with the person making the report that heading south the voice instructions are pretty misleading whichever way you’re going. For those not familiar with the junction the three lanes of the M3 split with one going off to become the A303 on the left and the remaining two on the right remaining as the M3, so an instruction to keep right for the M3 would be useful.
The way the junction is constructed on Waze you only get instructions if you are going onto the A303, but those are also misleading. They say to exit left rather than keep left, and also because there is a stretch of ramp before going onto the A303 the voice instructions also say to “Exit left onto M3 South Junction 8 exit to A303 west”.
Really I think the voice instructions need to say “Keep left onto A303” or “Keep right onto M3” whether that is done by removing the ramp altogether and treating this junction like a motorway split junction I don’t know, but currently it’s pretty misleading.
I agree with the labeling, I’ve driven through there and just labeling it A303 would probably be more suitable.
I know this junction, and agree with RTPeat’s analysis. (I think this is one for a L5 editor to decide on though)
Over the last few months the CMs have put a fair amount of keep left/right instructions on motorways only for Waze to change something subtly in the routing algorithm breaking any that have a ramp. I’ve recently mapped some in a different way at M1 J23A/J24 (Kegworth) which seem to be working fine.
I’m gathering info for a wiki page that will detail suggesting layouts (similar to the Junction Style Guide but focused on UK use) starting with Motorway/Trunk road junctions with when and how to force a keep/left right and when to use ramps. It’ll be a few weeks before I have anything to show though.
In the meantime I’ve tweaked this junction as suggested pending updates of the live map.
I was in two minds as to if the end of the A303 (E) that leads to the M3 (N) should be ramp, major highway or motorway but it’s a ramp for now. I’ll recheck in a few days and see how the changes have worked out. URs are left open for now until I know it is working.
New UR a couple of days ago at https://world.waze.com/editor/?lon=-1.17939&lat=51.20591&zoom=1&layers=BTTFFTTTTTTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT suggesting that it’s now not giving directions onto the A303 at all. I did try to go through it to check myself today, unfortunately there were a couple of accidents on the M3 so we ended up on the A33 instead.
Just taken a look and for some reason this segment of the M3 (S) had lost it’s name so although Waze routed you along the A303 it didn’t give any instructions to do so (though it did give a keep right to stay on the M3).
All fixed now so should be good to go after the next update.
Seems to be borked still, new UR today saying no guidance given to turn off.

Last app map update was upto 10th June, so the last changes on 9th June should have been included in what this user saw.
I’m not sure if that update on the 10th was again reverted, it has been removed from the status page???
Live map is currently showing a continue instruction.
Via A303 (W)
depart from M3 (S)
continue on A303 (W)
arrive at destination
It’s still on the status page. Updates were reverted to the 2nd on the 10th.
This update was on the 17th.
Map tiles in the International server have been updated with map edits up to : June, 10 2013 17:43 UTC
But it’s no longer present.

Checking on live map it seems to be giving the correct keep left/right now, so I would say leave it alone now
