This intersection is a little non-conformist. If you’re heading south on Mains Rd, a u-turn is legal, but if you’re heading north it isn’t. The way this intersection is currently set up, the NB u-turn cannot be disabled, and I’d like to fix it.
The only way I can think of is to convert it to a bow tie. If you have any other ideas, please advise?
You want the angle between the two segments on the opposite side of the junction to be less than 20 degrees otherwise you’ll get a Keep Left instruction for motorists passing straight through (whereas normally we want no instruction).
Having said that, I’m having trouble finding a reference in the wiki but did find a discussion where no-one seems sure what is going on. Best practice though would be to have the angles between the split road segments less than 20 degrees.
I’ve changed the angles a little more… I’ll go for a drive through here in the next couple of days (who am I kidding? I drive through here every day) after the tiles update.
I added this to my plug ins and now see a whole lot of angles.
I also saw on another post some question marks over whether the red u turn arrow can now be changed to green to allow u turns. After adding the extension, I was going to try junction angles, but clicked on the red u turn arrow and it turned to green.
So it seems like we have the ability to now make changes to the u turn option. If this is correct and someone else can confirm it, we can change Norton Street and Logan Road NB, which is u turn legal and reported by the user, but we could not change anything at the time.
This feature was disabled not too long ago by Waze staff as it let to a lot of confusion and lack of clarity of when and where a u-turn option needed to be enabled.
Some editors believed it should be at the end of a no exit road, others believed at certain junctions and crossroads. This led to confused routing in some cases (even though Waze said the routing algorithm didn’t take u-turns into effect).
For now, the feature has been hidden on the standard map unless you have a WME that displays it. We have been advised by Waze NOT to enable any u-turn options until later. Don’t ask me what this means, as we still haven’t been told if the feature is staying or going.
No doubt they will change the rules again to confuse us all…
Haven’t we gone through this multiple times already GG? In the WME, U-Turns should NEVER be enabled, and should ALWAYS look like this , and should NEVER look like this or this … or even this for that matter.
