MPH in International Editor

I’m a UK user, so we still use MPH rather than KM/H.

In the Waze app on my iPhone I am able to change my preferences to MPH so that I can see this reflected in the Speedometer on the app. I see Speed Camera reports on the map but it never alerts me verbally and just shows the camera on the screen. This isn’t very helpful when concentrating on the road but wanting to be notified of Speed Cameras.

I read on these forums that the Speed Cameras only alert verbally when you are over the speed limit, which is fair enough. I decided to try this out near a known Speed Camera to me and crept my speed up a little. To my surprise it didn’t work.

So, being community driven, I logged on and thought I’d change the camera myself. Unfortunately, the speed field is in km/h and there is no way to change this. This really needs fixing as it should be obvious that International != km/h. I know I can convert it but it never really equals a round number that Waze is going to accept, for example, 30 MPH = 48.28032 km/h. This is probably why none of the Speed Cameras that I’ve come across have any speeds associated with them.

I know people are likely to say, “well don’t speed”, “use another app for cameras”, etc. I don’t TRY and speed, but this information is handy. Yes I can use another app but that sort of defeats the object of the whole thing. Plus the fact that my iPhone almost sets on fire as it is and the battery life is already terrible! I don’t need extra apps running making the situation worse.

I’m aware the app is free, I’m not complaining and after a few teething issues at the start I’d really like to be able to ditch Co-Pilot altogether!

Raised many times. Seems it’s not a priority.

Just put 48 for 30mph

Speed camera audio alerting is generally broken. Don’t waste your time trying to get it to work.

As is editing speed cameras on the Map Editor.

I usually round up the converted kph, so 30 mph => 50 kph, 40 mph => 65 kph. It doesn’t need to be exact, as speed camera thresholds are typically set 10% higher (plus a couple more).

Not that it matters, as the audio alerts don’t appear to be working anyway. I’m attempting to test it in my local area, and am waiting for a map update.

Would welcome your results Tim.
