New here - Question

First of all…
WAZE is great.
I been looking for an app like this since i was born. lol.
Seriously, it pretty, and works pretty well so far.
Unfortunately my blackberry doesn’t has such an advanced mapservice like this one, but thank to another bb user i am more than statisfied.
Now i have to mention that im german, so my english is not perfect, and i want to apologize in advance.
Before i contact the support i am hoping the community can help me with some of my questions.
Here i go.

Police - Does it include policehecks and Speed traps?
So far i have reported Speed traps with the police-option, but to be honest at least in Germany, speed traps are not always operated by the police.
Personally i think there should be a separate option for speed traps, or another menu that comes up, when i choose “Police” .
Which brings me to my next topic about speedtraps.
About 2 days ago there was a speedtrap in my area, and i have reported it to waze.
But the day later it wasn’t on waze anymore.
Okay, it was a mobile one, and it ended at about 5pm the same day, but you should add an option with a time to specify if there is a mobile one in a car.
And today there was a stationary, permanent speed trap.
as i approached it Waze said there was a red light speed trap or something like that.
It was not on the map, but someone must have reported it.
How do i do that?
Traffic jam - I do know what it is, but how can i make an accurate report, so waze can guide me around it.
Just by saying “Trafficjam for 5 mi” the useres only know how long it is, but waze may not find the most accurate route.
Sometimes i see an entire Highway marked in red, cuz arceurope has reported it,but its impossible for a normal user.
hazard - What do u categorize a “Hazard”?
Chit-chat . I have asked my friend who is English, and he said its like having a conversation.
What i don’t understand it why i should report a chit-chat.
I hope you can understand me, and do not say my English is too bad.

Waiting for your answers.

I’ll give it a shot. Others can correct me / fill in the gaps.

Waze is meant to be simple and easy to use. There have been lots of suggestions for many different options, but it becomes harder to use the more menus / sub-menus and options you add.

I’m in the US so I’m not sure if you have options that differ from mine.

Police are either visible (in plain sight) or hidden (hiding as in speed trap).
So either they are doing their normal police business or they are being sneaky to catch speeders.
“hidden” eludes to “speed trap”

There was a post on this recently.
Waze relys on the most current information to help drivers.
If there is a mobile speed trap and you report it, for it to stay active another driver needs to confirm it within a certain amount of time or re-report it. If you had the ability to report it and designate that it stays on the map for 2 days, and the police move it right after you first report it, it’s no longer good information.

Speed / red light cameras are placed in the map while using the Waze Map Editor (WME), which you can access through the ‘live map’ link at the top of this page. No reporting necessary, they are permanent unless someone adds/deletes/or changes them from the editor.

I’m less clear on this one about what you are asking exactly. When a Waze user is stuck in traffic the system will automatically sense the slow-down and report it on the map. As a user you can send a report to other drivers confirming the traffic jam, or alert them in advance if the system has not flagged the traffic jam automatically yet.

Anything that could impede traffic really. There are a few options already programmed, such as ‘car stopped on shoulder’. Typically it’s someone that has pulled off the side of the road for some reason, debris in the road, I’ve seen people report potholes. Anything out of the norm that you would want to be aware of ahead of time or anything that might make you want to change lanes before you get to it.

Basically to send a message to other Wazers in your area.
A lot of times people use it just to say hello to everyone.
You mentioned the mobile speed trap earlier, you could ‘chitchat’ “mobile speed trap on (name of road)” so everyone knows that you weren’t just reporting a police car.
I’ve also had people ‘chitchat’ to everyone that something major was happening on a certain road, “lots of fire and police - railroad crossing going up and down” to communicate a traffic jam that was out of the ordinary.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Your english is fine by the way.

I don’t think speed/red light cameras can be added to the map with WME. Rather, the cameras initially have to be reported through the client (phone). However, the mere reporting is not sufficient to have then appear on the map. They then need to be confirmed in WME to appear on the map and then be used to warn users. Warnings for red light or speed cameras should be accompanied by a marker on the map.

German people are so funny… they always say they speak “a little bit” of English… and then they speak fluently… LOL

Anyway, thanks for your reply, it cleared some of my questions as well.

It seems there aren’t enough users in Germany to make “meaningful” speed trap reports… but I’m still going to report them whenever I spot them

By the way… not just because may have German people not so fluent in English… but also because some countries may have personalised criteria… there is a German forum and also a German wiki… you may have a look on them
