We made a list with the Belgium citynames in it, based on the Belgium zipcode directory. You can find it on the Belgium WIKI page, where we still working on.
You should have noticed, citynames is a big mess right now.
Our goal is to put all this citynames in the Waze database. The incorrect ones, will be deleted or renamed. If we are done with that, we lock the citynames, so only those names, that are in the database, can be used while editting. The same we did in The Netherlands.
Just some benefits:
1). There’s no discussion anymore, which name, and how it should be used.
2). Maps will look much clearer.
3). After a cityname is added to the correct area, you can only use it in that area. There’s a maximum distance from the city center. So the chance for a smudge is much less.
As source for cityborders we have to use ViaMichelin. We could not find a better source right now. In The Netherlands we have some perfect GIS data for it, but for whole Belgium it’s very hard. So if someone has a better source, please let us know!
Anyway, Google Maps is unusable for borders. Situations, where you think ViaMichelen is wrong, open a topic and discuss on the forum. Basically it should be okay.
