I’ve read through the Ohio guidelines a couple of times and want to share my comments.

In addition to my comments on each section below, I recommend that whenever the Ohio guidelines differ from the general Waze guidelines that language be added to give them very special attention.

“Dealing with system-detected problems”

This was good information. Thank you.

“Parking Lots, Private Roads, and Alleys”

I agree and think that is was consistent with the general wiki-waze guidelines.

“Places (Landmarks)”

First, are my comments on Places that are not landmarks (point places).

I have not found to back end GIS places to be very incorrect for my area. I don’t mind continuing to follow the Ohio guidelines (and not list all the point places), but wonder what the downside would be if we began added point locations. I have added some for testing purposes and found that Waze still does not list them even when I select “Waze” as my place provider (as opposed to Google Places, Foursquare, or Yellow Pages). I don’t know if this is a bug on my Windows Phone, or if Waze is not linking point places on the edit map to the client app.

Second, comments on actual landmarks (area places).

Because the back end GIS is not always correct I think that following the general wiki-waze guidelings for the following places would be more useful than the zero tolerance approach of the

Ohio guidelines:

1. Hospitals - this is an important place to possibly need to navigate to).
2. Schools – Schools are not even a category for navigation. Also, schools are very often visited by folks out of town due to schools functions and sporting events.

“Gas Stations”

There is another thread asking for clarification on gas stations, but I suppose the guidelines make it clear enough. It seems the Ohio standard is to make the area as small as possible. I don’t particularly see the need for that, but my desire is to follow the standards of those who are more experienced and have already discussed the topics. So, I’ll try to fix my gas stations soon (all are
the full area right now).

“Non-roadways”

This was good information. I recently deleted a walking trail that was also junctioned to a road.

Also, I have never mapped any rail segments, and don’t see it being done by anyone else. Should we really be added rail segments according to the wiki-Waze guidelines??

“Marking temporary changes”

This was useful info. Thanks

Thanks for putting the Ohio waze together and considering my comments.

Any thoughts? Some of the Ohio/Mapping conventions guidelines don’t seem complete to me, but I want to follow them none the less if there is a consensus surrounding their development and implementation. My full comments are above, but the particular things that seemed to pose a problem to me are these:

1. It seems to me that some area places like Hospitals and Schools should be added given their frequent visitation, importance, and that the are not included in the back end GIS database navigation list.

2. Can’t we add point places when the database does not include them?

3. Gas stations are about impossible to see when the area is made to be as small as possible. Further, I have never seen any clutter to the map or the client app as a result of showing their entire area.

Here is the Ohio/Mapping Conventions info I refer to:

Also, I now understand the passenger rail lines are to be mapped (something I’ll never do) – so I no longer have questions about that.

Thank you.
