Partners Crisis Response Drills

Waze conducts Crisis Response drills in collaboration with authorized local Partners to practice emergency procedures. These drills help identify gaps in our process and reduce response times during actual crises.

Note: These drills are reserved for official Waze Partners. If you are a community editor, please coordinate through your local Partner organization or Global Lead.

Request a Crisis Response drill

Submit your request at least 2 weeks in advance through the Waze Crisis Response Drill Interest Form. The form will ask for details about involving Waze Partners and defining participants.

What to expect during a drill

Drills are conducted in a simulated environment, allowing the Waze Crisis Team to test key features without impacting live traffic or end-user navigation:

  • Traffic Events (TE): A “Crisis” Traffic Event will be created by Waze or the community. To prevent disruptions to live navigation, no real-world road closures will be linked to the event.
  • Shelter Pins: A designated spreadsheet will be used to track shelter locations. Upon receipt of test coordinates, the team will upload a single test pin to verify system functionality.
  • Test Notifications: A simulated “crisis” push notification will be sent to the specific usernames designated by the partner.
  • Evacuation Zones: Partners will utilize a dedicated spreadsheet to practice the protocol for alerting the crisis team during zone activation.
