Personal update from Noam

Dear Community Members,

Over the last 12 years, we have built something truly special together. Where else, besides Waze, would users, volunteers, employees, partners, and public officials all work together, on one platform, for the common good?

A tweet I saw sums it up best:

Today I am writing to let you know that 2020 is my last year at Waze. Nothing is happening immediately and my role is not changing yet, but we will begin the search for a leader who can propel Waze to the next phase. I remain fully committed to our mission at Waze, and it was important that I tell you about this change myself.

Why now? Waze is the strongest it’s ever been, as a product, business, team and community. It’s the right time for a new leader to join the company and move the business and brand forward.

What changes tomorrow? Well, nothing changes tomorrow. All of the Waze staff you know, love and interface with daily are not going anywhere, and you will continue to have access to them. As for me, I will always be a part of this community and may finally have more time to edit the map.

I want to emphasize that Waze has Google’s continued support and we will continue to be an independent brand & service. Our 2021 plans and our vision remains the same. We are also investing significantly in our infrastructure and tools so that, with your continued support, we can continue to expand our service and “Outsmart traffic, Together”. Most importantly, you remain the very core and foundation of Waze—you make Waze what it is, and there are no plans to change that.

I believe strongly and passionately in what you are all doing, and I wanted to share my favorite quote by Margaret Mead with you:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.

Thank you for the time and effort you spend making Waze what it is today. I am so grateful to have you all in our community—we really couldn’t do it without you.

Your fellow Wazer,

Noam

Noam, thank you for giving millions of drivers across the globe a phenomenal navigation app and putting so much effort into making it the best it could be. Thank you for allowing us, the community, to devote our time and talents into making it even better and for putting together and growing a staff of truly amazing individuals that rally around a common goal, a vision, and a purpose.

For hundreds to thousands of us, we feel like we’re losing our boss, our leader as well but you can rest assured that we’ll all carry on the mission of making Waze the best navigation app available, continue working with the Waze staff as best we can, and we’re excited to see not only the next chapter here but the next chapter for you as well.

We wish you the best in your future endeavors and I hope our paths cross again soon.

Godspeed,

Chad

Ps: If you want to edit the map, we will need you to be trained --properly-- first, so feel free to join our respective chat platform.

The community cannot thank you enough for everything you have done Noam. Waze would not be where it is without your effort and vision for the company. Your time and dedication to the product, staff and the community will never be forgotten and we are forever great full.

We wish you the best in whatever future endeavor you may have and we hope to see you again in the near future. Stay safe!

P.S. can’t thank you enough for the extra pair of Waze Socks

Hi Everyone,

First of all - Since this is a special occasion we’ve opened the official announcement forum for comments (:

Most importantly - THANK YOU NOAM!! You’ve led Waze from a small new product to improving everyday life for Wazers all over the world, listening and really hearing what your users have to say. Speaking to you throughout the years it was always so clear how much you love Waze.

We will all miss you!!

Thank you Noam

Noam,

I’m new to editing, but fell in love with Waze after the frustrations from other navigation tools. Waze got me to events on-time, helped me avoid potential tire flattening obstacles, got me to slow down and avoid that ticket, and has even warned me about the many dead skunks on Texas roads. Thanks for leading such a great time!
