Mapping a railway crossing
This feature was designed for partners in the United States, but all countries had access to it. Below are the guidelines for implementation in Australia - note they differ from other countries.
- Railway crossing alerts in Australia should only be added for railway crossings without boom gates.
- Further, they should not be added for tram or light rail crossings, due to their high risk of creating map clutter and alert fatigue in dense areas. Cane train crossings are not classed as light rail and should be mapped.
- Set the direction of the crossing alert as required - as of September 2024 you no longer need separate alerts, they can be combined into one multi-directional permanent hazard which “snaps” to the road segment you select. Feel free to update the older style alerts as you come across them.
