We need an L3+ editor to help make corrections to the lanes on these 2 streets in Downtown Raleigh, NC.
The lanes through downtown Raleigh on McDowell St (Northbound US-401 / US-70) and Dawson St (Southbound US-401 / US-70) have changed as part of a repaving and restriping project in downtown.
There are now only 3 thru lanes, and they shift left/right as needed to add the dedicated turn lane on either side of the street. The previous arrangement had 4 lanes in most segments, with the 4th lane becoming a turn+straight lane at some locations, and a turn-only lane in other locations.
This isn’t visible yet on overhead views in the map editor web interface, so it will requires someone local to make the corrections. I’m just not a high enough level yet to make these changes myself.
Hello,
Can you send a PL permalink for this?
I think this link will help get you into the area: Waze Map Editor
The google streetview is mostly updated enough to be accurate where the overhead view is not- Google Maps
Hey @AustinNCSU! Good to hear from you again!
Are there any intersections where you’re still seeing incorrect lane guidance? I commute through downtown near-daily, and I believe they’re all up to date. The only one I want to double check myself is whether the left turn lane from McDowell to Hillsborough is still a left+continue (to turn left onto Edenton)
I think the intersection markings approaching the stoplights have been updated, What I’m seeing is that waze maps still shows there are 4 lanes in some stretches immediately after the intersection where there’s now only 3. I’ve been almost run into by people in this area who aren’t paying attention to the line that have shifted or realized that an entire lane is deleted to make the shift work better (if they would pay attention).
I’m usually watching the traffic and lines, so I’m not watching the app through this area as I’m driving. The Raleigh bus drivers are the worst for this.
Ah, I see – if you’re referring to these lanes in WME, I’ll work on getting them updated!

I tend to forget that setting exists, because it doesn’t visually affect anything in the app and instead only helps the Falcon snapper determine which segment you are driving on, based on your GPS location vs where we have the segment drawn.
Unfortunately the only thing that’s going to help solve the main issue is when DOT contractors finish the paving project and get the new lines fully striped. Fortunately it looks like this week they should finally finish northbound McDowell at Jones which is the most problematic intersection!
