Rank 4: Washington, D.C

In this case I am not sure if you need to do anything. I am talking to another rank 2 editor who wants the left turn from Constitution Ave onto 12th st restricted for trucks. I know that this is possible, but is it meaningful? I know in some cases, Waze allows map editors to do things that seem to be good, but can actually be very bad (such as allowing map editors to create non-driving segments and then try to route people on them). Is this a case where this is a waste of time, or will the restriction help? If the restriction helps, please put it in for trucks.

thanks

I understand your concern. At this point my reaction is that truck restrictions are closer to the waste of time rather than the help side of the continuum. I don’t think a correctly entered vehicle restriction has any effect at this point, because you can’t yet indicate that you are a truck in the client. So at this point there are better ways to spend your time editing than entering truck restrictions. On the other hand, if you come across truck restrictions and want to enter them they should do no harm.

The downside is that it easy to incorrectly enter restrictions (although not quite as easy a connecting a non-driving segment to the road network). And it can be difficult to troubleshoot issues that incorrect restriction cause. So if adding restrictions, take care to enter them correctly and check your work.

In this case, it’s no so much that the left from Constitution to 12th is prohibited to trucks, but rather that the portion of 12th between Constitution and Madison is prohibited to trucks. In other words, trucks should not turn right from Constitution or go straight from 12th onto that segment either. So this would be better handled with a segment restriction than a turn restriction. I’ve added what I think is the correct segment restriction. See if it makes sense.

This seems to be the right way to handle it. I hope Waze will allow people to indicate what type of vehicle they are (this will be nice for HOV lanes too).
