Hello, I’d like to register a speed hump in my area thanks.
This will be part of a groups of six (6) speed humps to be registered.
The attached file will show the gps coordinates of each. I have photos however only one (1) attachement is allowed. I guess you will be able to see them with Google Maps Street View.
Hi @world_3u1skq75, this is a 40km/h area which doesn’t meet our requirements for a speed bump permanent hazard to be mapped. You can read more on our Wazeopedia page at Speed bump.
Just to avoid any confusion, if this was a school zone which is normally 50km/h it would be eligible, but this is not the case here.
I’d love to know why the community standard is set at 40km/h. All I can see in the guide is that it says the standard is 50km/h or over. But I’m missing the why. A speed bump can be permanent, surely it doesn’t matter what the speed limit is on the road. A speed bump is a speed bump, and is a feature of that road regardless. The way i see it, a 1km long road with a 40km/h limit that has, for example, six speed bumps, is something I want to know about when navigating. I do apologize for querying on this post. I can’t see a way to query on the policy wiki page. If you could point me in the right direction, I’d happily take the query elsewhere. Thank you so much.
Good morning and thank you for your question around the Australian editing methodology for speed bumps.
Please allow me to expand.
Its sensible to expect that speed bumps are installed to calm traffic for a multitude of reasons. At a certain speeds speed bumps no longer become a hazard that could cause damaged to the vehicle or impact driving in a negative way. The Australian editing community identified the limit of 50 and above being that zone in which speed humps can be mapped. We also identified that limit to balance the numbers of alerts drivers may receive - often some drivers complain of alert fatigue.
May I also take this opportunity to share that certain permanent hazards are grouped or have a familiarity cap on them being reported - this cap is hard coded within Waze and not able to be changed however in the spirit of completeness I wanted to share it with you.
Thanks again for you query and allowing me the ability to share our methodology. The Australian Editing Community is always on the look out for volunteer editors if you are interested.
