Road Classification Query - A663 Broadway Manchester

While looking at at UR to downgrade the classification of a section of the A663 Broadway from Major Highway (Trunk Road) to Minor Highway:

I discovered from the Highways Agency Trunk Road Map, that the A663 (between M60 J21 and A627(M)) is actually a Trunk Road:

As a level 1 editor, I am cautious as to upgrading the remainder of the A663 to Major Highway without some input from more experienced map editors.

So … any thoughts ? Is this a valid change to make, or is there any reason why this section of road has been left as a ‘minor highway’ ?

Any constructive comments are more than welcome!

Cheers,

Esky.

I think you are right, well spotted. Maybe the original editor thought that as the road wasn’t dual carriageway it only merited being a minor highway, but the Wiki clearly states a Trunk road should be a Major Highway, no mention about it being dualed.

I would maybe wait for a few more opinions then change what you can and stick a post in the unlock forum for the rest to be changed or unlocked.

Edit, It should also be locked after changing to Major Highway so that us plebs can’t fiddle.

Andy.

I totally agree, if it’s shown on the Highway Agency map as part of the Trunk Road Network, it’s a major highway. I’ve planted my big feet in and changed it to Major Highway and locked it at L4.

It might be worth pointing out to the reporter that Major Highways (aka Trunk Roads) can be two-lane highways, and don’t have to be 6-lane dual carriageways with barriers between them. We might show the dual carriageways as dualled, but, depending on the colour scheme chosen by that user, the two-lane highways will be shown with the same colour.

(In the map editors’ colour scheme, major highways show as red, and only motorways are blue.)

Thanks for the comments and guidance - I have now replied to the reporter explaining the changes made and why.

Cheers!
